Title says it all, really. Final Fantasy XIV has a super rich history to pull from regarding many things, and it does pull a lot of stuff from a lot of the other games. However, the one thing I notice to be markedly missing from this game is a variety of "Job" gear. FF games have the iconic jobs with the iconic look, so why not make more gear than just one set per expansion that takes advantage of your history?
People should be able to get crafted job sets so that it doesn't mess with gear progression for tanks and healers, and to give people choice. If someone wants to take their pick of three or four yellow hats and blue robes that all look like Black Mage stuff but are distinct in different ways, and mix and match out of five sets of dragon-themed armor to make their own Dragoon gear, that should be an option. Don't just go for the more generic MMO designs in armor, put some more stuff that isn't bought by tomes that screams "this is a FF White Mage" or "this is a FF Dragoon". Basically, give us gear that can be purchased or crafted that looks like it would be Job AF, but isn't AF.
EDIT: Thanks everyone for your own feedback and opinions regarding this.
To be clear as some posts discuss it, yes, the equipment I'm referring to would be locked to that job, just like AF. It's one of the reasons why I like the idea of it being easier to obtain quickly than tome gear (this idea would also include reasonable crafting requirements so it's not a zillion gil on boards). I know that this isn't for everyone as some folks level more than one tank/healer and they currently share glamour, but I still feel it's a viable option as some folks, like me, prefer one tank over another (DRK in my case) and don't mind the other two "making due", so to speak, with the non-glamoured set.
Also, I like this idea for Job gear because then the people who do level multiple tanks or healers may not get effed over if they decide to make new job gear, because then it may not be progression gear. If they went this option and potentially opted to put all job-themed stuff in this "crafted or obtained without tomes" category (or a separate Relic armor quest but then you'd know what you were buying into when you started the quest), they can avoid ticking off the multi-tanks and healers out there.
Again, thanks for the comments, all.
