Has Square Ever Made A Mention of Adding Data Centers In The US?

I'm sure this isn't the first time it's been brought up, and I'm sure I'm not the only one having the issue. I currently live in Southern California and the latency issues that I, and my FC face seem to be pretty bad. My ping is normally around 600-800 and when we're doing things like raiding, you have to over compensate so much for the latency that it gets in the way of the design of the encounter. I can't count the numerous times where I've been no where near an AOE and got hit anyway.

I know some people will say it could be system or internet related, but here are my specs:

    Intel 6700K @ 4.8gHz
    32GB DDR4 3200mhz
    ASUS GTX 1080 OC'd

Internet is below as well, but in a nutshell it's 900+ MB/s down and 700+ MB/s up

So, all that being said. Any idea if Square is planning on it, or if they've given a good reason why they don't offer closer data centers for their players throughout the US and other parts of the world?

I don't know what the deal is with Level 3 and personally I couldn't care less. S-E needs to take their NA servers and move them somewhere else.

I live a lot closer than you do to the NA data center and I'm having bad lag problems too.

They can blame level3 all they want and maybe level3 is just the suck when it comes to internet backbones, but then they also aren't doing anything to solve the problem.

I think it is a server side where the data is just processed slowly on the server end. it does not feel like lag I seen everywhere else, as it seems like it is a constant thing. Like I can heal someone, or use LB, and use the resources to do the action, Mp, stuff on cooldown, so on, but the chain procs does not happen, LB empty but no effect, people get healed but they die anyway. I posted a question here:

In regards to this issue. it is annoying in PvE but game breaking in PvP. it needs to be addressed.
Here is something else I found why I posted that and i think it is based on this lag as well:

I do not know for sure what the exact cause of it, but in the end of things it is caused by SE, maybe they shouldn't have the data centers in Canada? or maybe the servers are just simply slow in processing information?

I live in NJ and get pretty bad lag from time to time. As stated before it's usually the Level3 backbone that's to blame. Unfortunately there's little you can do aside from using a tunneling program like WTFast and BattlePing, which may or may not work for you.

Level 3 is actually pretty big... even if they put a data centre in the next city from you, if your ISP has agreements with Level 3 it's entirely possible they'll still route you to the new data centre through L3 and you would potentially have the same issues.

Realistically I can't see them moving existing data centres either. Partly because of the above (no guarantee it'd fix problems for people), but also the cost would be massive and then they also risk degrading the quality of service for people who currently don't have any problems (those who have an ISP who doesn't route them through Level 3).

Creating a new data centre isn't really much of an option either as no one wants to migrate somewhere with no people (the queues would be terrible....) and it's not like you can move houses etc.

Sorry I appreciate this isn't a very helpful post

I live in Australia, at least you have a data center where most people speak English, instead of Japanese

Well I'm glad to hear it isn't just us who's having issues (misery loves company lol) has Square ever commented that they're aware of and care about the lag?

SE only has so much control over the issue, even if they move the servers there is no guarantee it would actually help your situation since at the end of the day it could be your own ISP causing the issue and not anything that SE can actually control.

There are just a lot of variables to consider and honestly one that might help is something they posted on the preorder page for Stormblood.

    https://store.na.square-enix.com/pro...on-pc-download

Under the System Requirements it notes.

If you are using a router, please set up your ports so that the below packets can pass through. [Ports that may be used] TCP:80, 443, 54992~54994, 55006~55007, 55021~55040

So you could make sure the above is applicable and see if that helps any.

Lots of my NA friends are having lag issues. I live in Argentina and my ping is around 175~180ms, using WTFast... Otherwise it would get way higher. I heard that yes, It's a Level 3 issue. You can try with a VPN... I know it's annoying but I don't see SE moving the server to the States anytime soon.
