[REQUEST] - Morphing (not a JOB request)

So I love to goof off with transformations. Not in games or even in rp but just for fun, I've always liked it. Some may notice I have in some threads suggested Morpher as a job, but not to run stuff in, just because I love skin-walking. I would spend a good hour or so in WoW as a druid just shape shifting and using the various forms just for the fun of it.

Now that all said I would like to point out transformations are nothing new in this game. A few Saint's Wakes back we morphed into Pico Demons, bats and ghosts. In PotD we all become frogs from time to time. So with that I would like to see these options opened up to the game at large.

What I am requesting is either some special reusable items (like the spouse ring that teleports you) or an emote set up or something to allow us to change. Of course it would need to be limited, similar to a NIN's invisibility. Canceled by zoning, combat, using anything but Sprint really, and of course enemies can see right through it. You could even use the ASW2014 or Ninja Vanish animation (puff of smoke).

    Some Examples
    Bat
    Spirit
    Black Cat (like the minion)
    Pico Demon
Frog (maybe a few of different colors like in PotD)
Skeleton (like the overworld enemies, different depending on race maybe?)

They don't all have to be "spooky" either, there are a ton of fun minions and little monster enemies like Onion Kids that would be great.

Sounds like it'd be pretty fun to be honest.

Given Yoshi's earlier comments on Blue Mages being a non-party/raid class that would be a, 'Professors of Monsters,' going around and collecting their abilities and such, I could see Morpher being added as a similar kind of non-group job meant for fun and aesthetics and the likes. Seeing a group of jobs like that would be really interesting to be honest.

No! lol. Go back to the drawing board until you can make it fit into groups. It may be difficult to capture the perfect spirit but hey, we already have jobs failing to do that in some eyes - at least they're viable forms of end game play. Turning it into a sight seeing log will be so lame, imo.

Go ahead and keep the side content, but seriously don't slap an iconic job into a "not a real job" position.

Morpher isn't really iconic, but I would like to see a morphing job :3. Those are difficult to balance though if they can multi-class, they'd need their own unique systems.

Also I like skin changing too, so yeh +1 for options. Just don't get too ridiculous, like no Nidhogg glamour lol (your list is very reasonable).

I miss Druid from WoW :<

I did like the different forms and flexibility of the class.

Yeah keep it simple is best or t would be chaos on Balmung. My kids love watching me become a frog in PotD. If you heard them you would think it was the funniest thing in the world.

I do feel that emotes, glamour, and titles are a good way for SE to give us "jobs" that just cannot fit into the game. Just because someone likes something unpopular, doesn't mean they wouldn't appreciate some attention.

This reminds me of the Halloween event where people could randomly transform into different creatures (Ahriman, bad, imps) and even GC leaders. I remember liking it and many thought that the items for the transformation would be perfect for GS vendors to sell ... maybe even limit it to the GS.

WOuld be nice to be able to transform while waiting for a GATE to pop-up

In fact, many things and mini games from different events would work for the GS such as the Haunted Mansion, the egg chase, egg escort (similar to Vase Off) etc.

Except I don't think Blue Mage is one of those :/. The number of abilities you get can easily fit many of the popular monster abilities, and could easily make a tank or dd (heck you could add abilities into the wild that you want blue mage to learn when you add blue mage, "making" the abilities you wanted to give him lol). Or give lore on how he enhances the given abilities. The issue of acquiring abilities can be made unique so long as it doesn't conflict with DF, which I've already suggested one solution (that will ensure that you never get a blue mage who doesn't have X skill, and scales so you dont have to make a quest for every single ability (cheaper the longer Blue Mage develops)). So to me it's like making "Red Mage" a mini game because it's "too hard", at that point a lot of Red Mage fans would be like.. no.. try again.

If you say making morpher is too hard then maybe I understand, because almost all morphing classes are defined by their ability to adapt and usually by adapting to different styles entirely not different colors of the same style (IE Druid who can tank, heal, or DD depending on spec and gear). You could make a morpher who could adapt to different types of damage, or using a complex form of stance dancing like a weird Udyr sort of build - so it's more all samey. But people might not like that you shift forms so frequently. I do see Blue Mage taking more resources to create than say Paladin, so I get not rushing off to make em' but if you're going to make a whole mini game about it I will say go back and try it again or don't make it at all. (do it right, or not at all :X).

So I'll face palm so hard if they do that to Blue Mage. I think it'd be possible to make morpher work in DF but unfortunately it'd also be sort of like "why play other jobs" when you only have to level and gear one to do all three, that's not really balanced and we don't have a spec system that could play on top of the job like Druid in WoW (or have to do the "types of damage"/Udyr/stance dance types of solutions).

Also I agree with your kids. Getting Frogged is awesome. I just hop around so hard when it happens lol. I want to be able to pull out those cute frog hats and /dance xD.

I was going to say having people be able to forever transform into GC leaders would be a bit meh, but then you said GS only and I was sold. I think that's great place to goof off~ (I think some of the more reasonable goof ones could be used outside maybe, but GC leaders are kind of important haha). Anyway GS messing around is great

VIKING, we already have WAR so Viking is unlikely but we could get "classic" Viking gear like horned helms with beards and/or shadowed out glowing eyes/

That's sort of an example of a Job that most likely would never be but the esthetics could be given. That's the intent of non-combat Morphs for fun.

Oh okay , that is a good example that makes sense to me. Viking really doesn't seem to fit when we already have warrior, but some people might want the image - that makes sense.

I felt you were referencing blue mage because it was suggested before it is turned into a mini job (basically not a job), and I was like - uhm no. lol. Morpher might fit into that too.. I can see him being either VERY challenging to balance if you want to make it free form, or just not that adaptable as you might usually expect (like I said Udyr scenario, different forms of DD - isn't capable of leaving their predefined trinity). That said I still love transforming jobs.

I think back when with all the SMN stuff I suggested a sort of morphing with Primal energy job that was a DD, Harmonixer like thing (high risk, you're insane and you'll die young job - can build that into the mechanics too), heavy Terra Brandford reference/influence[1]. And I was thinking again of Udyr from LoL and BLM/MNK, just this sort of build up riding the brink of madness and before you're consumed and tempered (punishment like BLM messing up their cycle, losing stacks) you switch into another primal form to break free before the pros of power consuming become cons (of some sort), of course certain forms would offer specific benefits so planning them would be important - you don't want to simply bounce between rotations but plan which rotations and adapt forms as required. At basic levels you'd just slightly adorn yourself in the primal's weapon (giant fiery claws, massive clubs for fists, w.e), but the higher tiers would start to make you appear to be entirely different, with of course long CD abilities doing a sort of warrior enraged. Weapon could be a heart stone/third eye, tony stark that lol (and a glamour option to hide it ofc). Might be better to create a set of espers that don't relate to primals though, just so it separates them and makes it so each new primal doesn't mean they want a new look / skill set (espers could be even like off shoot "religions"/aberrations of primals, so they have some imagery similarity but not all primals have an esper because these beings require some level of follower ship to become individual and not just energy - like Belias being a minor Ifrit esper). Besides of course range/melee ideas each esper should probably have a different playstyle (even if slightly), so your benefits come with a different mindset as well. Give an oh crap I screwed up ability on long cooldown for weird boss mechanics lol. That obviously is non-animal vision of a morphing job though.

Any transformation job has to have a special mount form though !

Anyway, I don't think morpher like job is impossible but it's form if it ever takes one is going to be quite different than before and probably low on SE's to do list (like we discussed, Druid from WoW has things like the talent system to rely on for balance - SE doesn't get that, a multi class job would be really something else.. and likely not fit). But I love skin changing/evolving jobs, like a lot.. really love. lol. (I actually don't think blue mage is one of those though, because you can keep all of it's essence including learning abilities so long as you just reduce the number of abilities he can learn to a specific set).

Back onto the just transforming options though: I'd like to transform into a kupo or chocobo lol (concerned about location maybe, like chocobos in town.. so maybe put restrictions but yeah).

I actually think Belias is referenced in FFXIV already as a an elder primal though, iirc from summoner story (but I was giving his imagery for example).
