Scabbards seem to be a big thing with Katana's (probably due to a few types of move sets), so I wonder if they'll make exception to their no sheathe rule for the Katana..

If they do, just for the giggles I'd like to see a goof version of Masamune where it's like a sheathe the size of a dagger and it just keeps drawing out XD (animation cancels if auto attack/ability ofc, keep it fair - perhaps for an NPC goof scene if they dont want it in as an actual player item).

If not, look at the "Ninja" weapons. Only 1 looks like actual kodachis. I know the katanas doesn't have the flexibility on desing like other weapons, but we will have a lot of weird stuff instead of katanas.
This may be true, however many pre 60 Greatswords for DRK were actually very realistically proportioned and believable. One of the final being a very nice, detailed Two handed sword Skofung.

Should the new jobs begin at level 50, we could have a few good options for those who want more traditional Katana, if Samurai are implemented, and they do indeed use Katana.

Also hats off to the OP, 3d modeling has always been an interest of mine, sincerely, keep up the great work.

Scabbard or maybe some Wakizashi combo?

Whilst making this model, i got to thinking about how it could work rather than just as a one handed or two handed blade class tank or dps.

So with a Wakizashi, i can imagine that samurai would use this smaller blade as part of a combo (at least animation wise). For example, lets say its a tank and has a dash/quickdraw attack which charges through the enemy and has the same effect of provoke. Potentially on the other side of the boss or once the dash is done, the Wakizashi is used for a backwards stab. The stab i'd say is like PLD using provoke then Shield Lob to grab and hold the first batch of Aggro Points.

As for scabbard i think they'll definitely add them. Non-bstance would just be the katana sheathed and when it comes to drawing the weapon, the character crouches slightly, one hand holds the scabbard whilst the other holds the katana either slightly drawn or still sheathed (Reference of most stances used before quick draw strikes)

    1. Thanks for the hat! always wanted one ^^
    2. I agree that the standard greatsword/bastard sword look for DRK was awesome. The designs since then have been just too clunky/fanciful for my taste. (Also rip to the two handed Viking Sword from the gameplay trailer that never got put into the final HW version)
    3. For Samurai, i do hope that they at least endeavour to put ONE realistic armour and weapon set without adding horns, bags, bells and whistles to it. As much as i love the teams creativity, i do sometimes feel a bit overwhelmed by the lack of just simple and realistic armours/weapons
