Hint: they're refugees as a result of Doma's occupation.
Also, I don't buy the "no one bats an eyelid" schpiel. The game has not been fully updated to reflect the reaction of Limsa's denizens to its new visitors, unlike say the Ala Mhigans in Ul'dah and Gridania, who are not hugely welcome.
I really hope not. I'd rather they expand the options for existing races - a few new faces, separate makeup and face paint, eyeliner for not just Au Ra, and unlocked hairstyles - before that. Plus it would make it a lot easier to do hybrids if they did that beforehand.
I honestly don't want to see hybrid races though. I would much much rather have a whole new race added to the mix for more visual variety.

There is no apostrophe in Au Ra.
Stop adding one three years later.
I've always assumed we haven't gotten a new race because if/when they add a new one it should be something different. Also, considering where we're going in SB, a new race doesn't make much sense in my opinion. Unless of course we meet a new race that is currently enslaved by the Garleans and we set them free, at which point they become playable in the expansion after. That could be a thing.
In Ishgardian society.
What about.. any other society? We already know Ishgard isn't terribly open-minded besides Aymeric lol.
Thats not the point I was making. They are as rare as everything else in this game that suddenly appears.
Roegadyn children are nonexistent. Female Miqo'te children were nonexistent until recently. Male Miqo'te children are nonexistent. Au Ra children are nonexistent. Au Ra in general were nonexistent until SE created lore. Male Miqo'te were very rarely seen as NPCs in story until after 2.0(so 2.1 and up).
Au Ra have no background. No settlements. No nothing. They are just people that are in the world and the only explanation is "They're from Doma".
SE can EASILY make a new race. Just like Au Ra, Yoshi can easily announce to us
"Oh yeah, guys. I forgot to tell you. There's actually an entire continent that has an entire race of rabbit-like people and this city in particular actually knew about them the whole time and now they're all over the place in Eorzea but do not fear! As Eorzea as a whole doesn't care at all and only that city in particular acknowledges they exist within certain side quests that don't connect to the main story so you can play without anyone ever questioning what the heck you are."
That is Au Ra

Hybrid race (not specifically the ones we can already choose) created and experimented on by the Garleans for the purpose of war, enslaved to be freed by us and unlocked by us~! Could do some FFIX Vivi references too!I've always assumed we haven't gotten a new race because if/when they add a new one it should be something different. Also, considering where we're going in SB, a new race doesn't make much sense in my opinion. Unless of course we meet a new race that is currently enslaved by the Garleans and we set them free, at which point they become playable in the expansion after. That could be a thing.. Would be a good excuse to add in a far different race. FFXIV doesn't have it's wild race, WoW has a few (comparatively), GW had Charr, the demons of Tera, most games have one.. Everyone is too pretty in FFXIV and Roe isn't really that wild- they even chopped his tail off from FFXI lol.
For mixed races we already have at least one, I assume it wouldn't be too hard to just include some development in the alchemist lab that stabilized interbreeding by incubating in some mako goof chamber, accelerates age as a side effect. Just need the lore team to give it some choice wording ;3. Another thing we perhaps get from the Garleans, experiments on races? Although it could be cute to have family trees like SWtOR, would really need someone bored at the office though because I imagine otherwise it'd cost too much for non-RPers to want it. (I think it'd be cute to see family legacy in the game, but adds little actual gameplay - just setting).
Since I don't really see each race being that unique from each other just massively increasing variation options doesn't seem that bad to me. I could go for some more clans too though.

No one bats an eye is stretching it a bit. Player population shouldn't be taken into account. For example all the catboys running around everywhere. There are very few Au Ra NPCs, and a decent number of them have stories of being not well recieved, especially by Ishgard.
Lore is a bad reason to restrict things. You could never add anything to the game if you followed the logic that it already has to be commonplace before you can add it.Hybrid race options don't really make sense lore wise. Hybrids aren't impossible obviously (although some combinations probably are) but they are extremely rare, rare to the point that we've only met one after traveling all over Eorzea.
A thousand hybrids suddenly appearing in Limsa would be silly.
