They're going to actually implement hybrid races. Technically this is already in the game to some extent with Hilda, the half Hyur/Elezen, though I'm not sure exactly what the other race mixtures would look like (Queue horrific imagery of lala/roe).

If we were getting any sort of new race option, Viera hybrid or otherwise, it would have been announced at one of the last Fanfests AND most likely would have had already have a character related to Stormblood around to represent it.
This isn't to say nothing will happen for the rest of the game, or even that they really are waiting till the EU Fanfest for it. But its very unlikely for 4.0 at this point.
On the topic of hybrids though...if Hyur/Elezen is ever introduced hopefully there will be more options to make them more...Elezeny I guess would be the word. You could lie to my face by calling Hilda a Hyur and I'd believe you because there aren't a lot of differences.
Mi'qote/Lalafell seemed pretty popular around the time people were wondering if the Mi'qote orphan in Iydlshire was such.
To be fair the story wouldn't treat it as if there were suddenly a lot of them around. Male Mi'qote are still somewhat rare and aren't running around in nearly the numbers that players would have it be if we counted all of them. Same with ALL the Au Ra players, more so in 2.0 content.Hybrid race options don't really make sense lore wise. Hybrids aren't impossible obviously (although some combinations probably are) but they are extremely rare, rare to the point that we've only met one after traveling all over Eorzea.
A thousand hybrids suddenly appearing in Limsa would be silly.

What if we are getting a secret new race and the new person representing the race is hidden behind a mask like Yuguri was? What if Unukalhai is of a new race?
If that were true, we would have had this "secret" character many patches ago. Unukalhai actually does remove his mask at the end of the Warring Triad storyline.
He's just a young Hyur child from the Void. Nothing special.
Then why do you keep recruiting us for raids and primals?
Trust me, if Unukalhai was going to be used to show off a new race we'd already have threads about it day 1 of 3.5.
Such an evolution would probably help them move past the "emergency food" stage of life.

It could be funny if it was explained away lore-wise as a "fad where people mess with their genetic make-up using a strange potion in order to make outlandish combinations of the races."Hybrid race options don't really make sense lore wise. I mean, it's not like this sort of thing doesn't happen in Japan...

How rare are Warriors of Light? I don't think rarity applies in FFXIV as an excuse the way it does in other games such as WoW. We're already special snowflakes.Hybrid race options don't really make sense lore wise. The warrior of light is treated as a solo entity, created by hydaelyn. This can mean whichever form she deems appropriate. This isn't like wow where a race needs a decently sized populus for them to be lore friendlyHybrid race options don't really make sense lore wise. Not really trueAdding a single new race with any significant variation from the existing races would essentially be an expansion in itself for the Art team because of the hundreds of gear items that would have to be updated to the new body shapes. This is why I am not expecting anything more than a new race with a tail / face / height changes in the future.
All character models are based off the hyur male (it is used as a default), just proportioned and animated differently. Do the /flex emote, you get stuck in the hyur male default pose for a second no matter what race you are. That's why they don't have to re-adjust the gear on new races.

Don't we see thousands of warriors of light already? :^)Hybrid race options don't really make sense lore wise. Hybrids aren't impossible obviously (although some combinations probably are) but they are extremely rare, rare to the point that we've only met one after traveling all over Eorzea.
