Simply word "content for hardcore" or "content for casual"

if a casual could win against everything in-game, then hardcore who play more would have nothing challenge.

I would say that Ifrit is in the middle between hardcore and casual content. Since the requirement isn't much at all. At least it doesn't ask you to get ability from 7-fighters classes combine.(which is also possible to do if SE want to make hardcore content)

To OP: Depend on what you think as "respect". You will respect PT by learning sentinel and help them win. Or you will just bring them all down with you, because they need to respect you choice of play in PT ?

edit: not sure how 3 are locked out, only ones locked out are ARC and PUG for the most part, all other classes are perfectly viable in the fight.
The main reason ARC and PGL are locked out are due to DPS. ARC can deal with animation lock just like the mages can. Problem is their DPS ain't worth the extra risk at all. A quarter of the DPS of a LNC + extra risk = lock out. PGL is on the same boat, although their DPS isn't as lacking. It's much more comparable, given very specific cross-class tools, however they eat Sear damage constantly in order to keep that DPS.

If both of these classes did more damage to reach a balance, or had more utility, they would be accepted.

THM is beaten out by CNJ in pretty much every regard since as it stands now mage = healer. Now with 1.20 if THM gets a huge boost in damage dealing ability, that might all change.

And I think most players who continue playing without quit would already have a lot of classes at cap.

it is up to SE either they gonna make it hard for 1-class player and easy for multiple-class
    or
they wanna make it hard for multiple-hard, and hell for 1-class player.

alot of what i can see happening is along these lines

such as UU gear becoming meldable...

only people with crafts leveled will be able to do it, thus making it beneficial and a bonus to have your crafts leveled alongside combat

no matter what they do people will complain

the content will be too easy, or itl be too hard
the gear will suck or itl be great
crafting will be unfair or dungeon drops will be unfair

there will always be 2 sides to the arguement and the best they can do is try to minimize who is going to be affected by what changes, which they have done pretty well so far.

as far as bringing stuff to ifrit goes, my shell doesnt force any of us to be the "elite" setup for it, some of us may choose to go lancer for it, same as we chose to go archer for darkhold, but we also have no issues bringing in archers to ifrit, and we beat him with archers and pugs in our group too

if your shell leaves you out because you want to bring pug or archer, get a new shell, sounds like they are the issue moreso then the game itself

Not being very active in a Linkshell has been for sure a problem. I have concentrated on playing with just my partner.

Also a little wary of the time I've seen him spend in FFXI trying to get a party off to go to Dynamis or somesuch, have seen it take what seems forever, so I guess I have pushed a little in the direction of our dynamic duo. I don't get the all time I want to in Eorzea, and waiting for party's to form....arghhh, I'm not very patient Want to game on whilst I can.

Lots of help has been offered, many thanks to most for your comments.. will keep me zooming 'round Eorzea on my little Lalafell legs till 1.2 lets hope.

I agree that the fight shouldn't suck so bad for archers. I would expect the people wanting to do HYPER MODE would have come with cross class skills equipped as that is how the game is intended to be played.

Also, HYPER MODE Ifrit is the closest thing to a hardcore type of activity we have currently in the game so no, I don't expect it to be something casual players should expect to do. You got to see all the CS in the 25 one. You killed Ifrit as far as the story is concerned.

That said, I would not be opposed to a level 45 Ifrit NORMAL MODE with a bit squishier boss and longer timer between Ifrit using his abilities. Of course with a lower drop rate on equipment or something to go along with it.

This game needs a ton of content for casual, mid-range, and hardcore players. We all need stuff to keep us busy no matter what type of player we are.

    A good LS can make all the difference. When no one would take a Glad to Ifrit one of my LS took my sister and spent the time (and deaths) teaching her the fight. I went and healed over and over but we did it and we can do it again whenever we want. My sister and I would take an archer if only to prove it could work. A lot of LS are sick of doing the fight and I think that is too bad. Part of the reason I think it is too bad is I have only gotten dark matter over and over ><;

I hope it is not EX, and that it actually deals high physical damage not based on your STR and attack.
This sort of thing is nothign new, it's been going on forever in FFXI, where the elite declare everything other than the couple jobs they find to be the "best" to be terrible and won't let use them at all.

A brief bio My partner and I have been playing XIV since beta! Yup, from the beginning we have grown as the game has, casting, slashing, crafting, enjoying ourselves by and large. Slow and steady we have played together whenever we can, pushing thru the UI lag, waiting on patches, loving the look of the game immensely.

We capped our primary class last night, very excited I capped my Thamaturge and my partner his Archer, ready for the Primal... right? The biggest meanest boss in the game. Ahem! The only true boss (mega-boss?) in the game (atm).

Not good enough we are told... repeatedly. Why? Could it be the "elite" types saying no? Perhaps some of the rejections were from e-types.

Could it be the difficulty of the battle? I'm a FF newbie (only VII, XIII, and here), but plenty of other games and gaming experience under my belt. And there are folks out there who don't mind players that sometimes make mistakes, don't know every weakness and battle mechanic, I have heard from them whilst we tried to get to Ifrit.

Could it be the game itself? Fanboys are shuddering, I know. But if NO-ONE will allow an ARCHER in an Ifrit battle, who is to blame? If no one wants your participation unless you have Gladiator 36 as well as your capped class, how do you get to kill Ifrit?

Reminds me of older FFXI, says my partner. Dragoon or Dark Knight anyone want them? Red or White.. which mage will get picked?

If the battle is so hard (not that we are gonna find out anytime soon) as to require a FULL party, then a diversity would seem the best option. ONLY 7 battle classes, 8 members in the battle party, but never an Archer!

So what will we do? Both get Gladiator to 36 to get "Sentinel" to just survive the battle? Then level a third class **NOT** archer, then try get 6 others to join us....

I feel defeated, we have worked so hard to level cap. I've looked forward to the end-game content and the big battle! Moogle boss is coming I hear ya say, but what if similar conditions apply... Another month or 3 getting the requisite class to appease the community that we are good enough? The community we are required to combine forces with just to get there?

Should I pay for this experience as well now? I am really upset today, this has tarnished the experience I have enjoyed all year.. I've worked HARD for all year.

If you're an archer you can't play, Archer, archer go away.

    *sigh*, Faz.
Actually when this patch hit I was only an Archer 50 and didn't really care to level any other class besides maybe MRD and at the time it was in the low 30s. That was my next highest class and I was useless as Archer on the Ifrit battle I was pissed. Then I got determined and decided well since Archer is nerfed atm and may never get fixed back to my liking then I shall level another class especially since it is alot easier now to level a class up to 50. So I took MRD then CNJ to 50 in the same amount of time or even quicker than it took me to get my original character to 50. Did it bother me to have to level another class to fight Ifrit? Of course but what can you do? I was set on doing Ifrit so I put my mind and time to it and get to fight him whenever I wish now. Don't feel cheated totally, it is just a game, you two can actually do Ifrit but you need a dream team to make up for the Archer or a group of dedicated friends who just want to get the boss down regardless of what others say you can or cannot do. Regardless of how you feel atm you are required in this game to level multiple classes to gain benefit from the other classes to become more powerful, I even knew that since beta. That is what the foundation of the game was originally built around. So with this common sense knowledge how are you disappointed to know you need certain skills from certain classes to be optimal to do the fight. Now that you have a 50 you guys can take turns helping each other level your other classes and it will not take nearly as long as it did before.

You should pay for the experience if you enjoyed it so far, because you found out you didn't meet the conditions to jump into the current hardest boss in the game as soon as you hit level 50 you get mad about it? You feel the experience was taken from you? That is the experience of an MMO, no MMO that I have ever played lets you jump into the hardest content once you hit level cap. You always have to fulfill certain conditions before you are truly capable of holding your own in those fights by doing other things first, this one in this game is have multiple classes leveled that benefit one another. I didn't ever want to touch GLA to get sentinel but I did it anyways. We have others in our LS who don't have it but as long as the tank and majority of the other people say 5 to 6/ 8 have it you are fine but makes the fight way easier as a whole if everyone has the ability. So if I was you I would get together with your friend and help each other taking turns on a level 50 class power level the lower classes up to mid levels and then maybe level one other to 50 and jump in on the fun. Also you will be rewarded in the sense that you will be able to fulfill different types of positions in upcoming battles.

While I understand why people are angry that they are not invited to ifrit party with no sen but think of it this way... If a whole party went in without it beside the tank, Hellfire + a quick volcanic burst will most likely wipe you. Hell, in my ls we got some without sentinel and we even take 1 archer or 1 pug into the fight and ok it is winnable but often the healer can't survive hellfire.

Also another point of the fight is kill it before it can kill you so mp management is very important. It certainly doesn't help SE just send Archer the extreme nerf bat. And I will be honest... I am not sure how hard the Ifrit fight will be after patch with no sentinel or slow from MAGES....

Honestly, getting a class to 36 should take you less than 12 hrs game time (it is possible to get 50 in less than 24 hrs game time). And since you have a friend who is 50 you guys can powerlevel each other.

Plus (for now) sentinel is a great ability you will use time and time again especially for other end game content.

Also a note on Ifrit, it was designed to give hardcore players a challenge. These are players who play 8+ hours a day. Players who have all their classes at 50 and the resources to power up their gear with expensive materia, not the run of the mill casual player with one level 50 class. Unfortunately for casual players if they didn't have something challenging to do this game would surely die off.

With XP so easy to earn at the moment I believe the developers expect players to have multiple classes at 50 to clear the current end game content.

I think this is a great system. When the game was released it took 3-6 months to get a class to 50. If that were still the case then, yes, I would complain that needing multiple jobs at 50 to do any content is unfair. But now that you can get a class from 1 to 50 in three days I think it is totally fine to expect players have multiple classes at 50.

Casual players can get one class to 50 and feel like they are high level and hardcore players can get all their classes to 50 then they have crafting and gathering. Everyone is happy. I actually think it is too easy to complete a class. I consider myself a casual gamer who started at launch and I have 5 out of 7 classes done.

If you expect to complete the hardcore content when it is new, then you will have to invest as much time as hardcore players invest. If you don't want to invest that much time, then wait and settle for beating it when the developers make it easier. Maybe one day Ifrit will be solo-able ^^.

Despite this, I do feel your frustration. And wish there was something fun that 2 players at level 50 can do together. I play with my best friend also and without a party of 8 there is really nothing exciting to do.

Please Developers of Final Fantasy XIV design some content for two level 50 character to do together and save this game!
