I've done Ifrit with a few archers. They did about 1/4 the damage of the TANK and had a hard time staying alive due to their more severe animation lock...

Wiith that in mind: why would I invite you when I can pick a lancer instead?

Slow and steady we have played together whenever we can, pushing thru the UI lag, waiting on patches, loving the look of the game immensely.
    --------------------------------SNIP--------------------------------------------------
Should I pay for this experience as well now? I am really upset today, this has tarnished the experience I have enjoyed all year.. I've worked HARD for all year.
It's not that we've been working "hard" since BETA to get one class to 50. It's that we have worked hard collectively in the time we have available, because we enjoy playing together.

Fighting through the dreadful UI and server lag, trying to keep motivated after spending hours at a time managing inventory between us (Trade function is a nightmare!!!!!) and now animation lock and removal of action queing (yes, they're being fixed in the next patch...)

...and then there's crafting - we worked hard trying to get a good stock of ingredients and craft components for recipes across the board between us and the simplified versions have now made that work obsolete.

We voted that we could accept radical change in Eorzea. We have enjoyed residing in this world that is being developed. We have been reassured by the Dev team that the game will be both casual and hardcore friendly. Surely a fight with a 15min recast after completion is something that is meant to include this "Casual" crowd.

Most of my other classes are between 20-30, so by working at it, I will get a shot soon. Maybe not the case for Faz just yet, but if we PowerLvl (*shudder*) then we may have the classes high enough soon.

...but is this a reasonable thing to expect of "Casual" players? "Hardcore" focused content is certainly needed, but for recurring elements such as Primals/Espers/Aeons in the series, this is something ALL FF players should be able to experience in full force.

Our extent with the lower lvl battle was "Oh we need to complete this" - /shout, got someone in a brief time who brought an additional character. We started watching the CS "Ooh Ifrit looks cool" then enter the fight and literally 2 seconds later, Ifrit had been defeated by this guy solo. This suggests the fight is really easy, even for people at the "Recommended Level"

We don't want easy. We just want a chance to play. Mushy put it perfectly.

EdenArchangel you're a gem. If switching servers were an option, we'd do so just to take you up on that offer. As for a LS - we live in Australia (1hr ahead of Japan) so we have limited options for LS events & parties when in our peak (which is also the peak time in Japan) and are not online when there's many english speakers about. We make every effort to play with Japanese folk, and have made a couple of friends too, but they also do better with someone they can easily communicate with, so we're not top pick at the times we play. We'd be best suited to a JP linkshell, or oceanic (if they even exist anymore...some tried at launch, not heard much since).

The lacklustre Auto-Translate dictionary makes this even more difficult, and I even took the effort in XI to learn a few phrases in romaji to help get a foot in the door with a pt! The dictionary doesn't have enough depth for complex organisation, especially strategy. You can mostly make-do, but there have been times when a Japenese person has left a party of ours because we've tried to Auto-Translate some instruction/direction and they have not understood, seen a Japanese shout for the same thing and left.

This was content introduced to the game. Not content already in the game. The development team should have seen this coming. With all their looking forward and developing a completely new engine and reshaping the fundamental systems of the game, maybe they forgot to have a play themselves?

I wonder if any devs choose to play as the Archer class?

Greetings to all. I make my first post today, a sad day it is.

A brief bio My partner and I have been playing XIV since beta! Yup, from the beginning we have grown as the game has, casting, slashing, crafting, enjoying ourselves by and large. Slow and steady we have played together whenever we can, pushing thru the UI lag, waiting on patches, loving the look of the game immensely.

We capped our primary class last night, very excited I capped my Thamaturge and my partner his Archer, ready for the Primal... right? The biggest meanest boss in the game. Ahem! The only true boss (mega-boss?) in the game (atm).

    *sigh*, Faz.
How the hell did you take more than a year to cap one class. Ive capped almost all of them in a matter of 3 months. You should have every single 50 by now. If you take that long to level dont expect to do any end game content.

The MMO Attitude, ladies and gentlemen. Take notes; If you're less epic than this, you're not welcome here.

"Online gamers are the most ludicrously entitled beings since Caligula made his horse a senator, and at least the horse never said anything stupid."

I know there are communities that don't work like this, and I know there are groups of nice people and you should "find your niche" and all that - but the ratio is way too small.

Between these types of attitudes and the stigmas created by the arbitrary "challenge enhancements" (I.E. There may be options, but all but the easiest one are gimp/forbidden) -- I've decided to focus on other areas of my life, instead. I love XIV with a passion, but unless something changes in game design to balance this kind of thing, I'm pretty much done here.

Don't mind the ignorant posts pertaining to the rate at which you guys level. To each his own.

I will say that the reason for what you're experiencing primarily stems from accomplished players not wanting to ever wipe again - when in reality they still do. Even if you go in perfect, Ifrit sometimes decides to be a douche and glitch his Eruptions

All of this is quite inconsequential at this time though, as we are on the eve of 1.20 which will usher in the class reforms. It's safe to assume everything will change then - although I'm sure the community will inevitably find an optimal setup to agree on once again. Hopefully the severity of it will not be as it is now.

The root of the problem now is precisely why these reforms are coming. Sure, LNC or MRD may still be better than all the DD after the patch, but at least they won't be 3-4x as effective as an ARC or a THM, which they are now.

Beyond all of this though, you've just got to find a static group of friends to play with other than yourselves. A solid LS can make/break this game for you. Personally, even now, I value the effort of a player to perform optimally with the tools they have at hand much more than how many classes they have at 50. What matters is the drive to better oneself.

I'm not a veteran myself, but I'd do what I can if I was. When I get to 50 I'm going to be making a linkshell for the purposes of helping others, and enjoying boss content.

Not to belittle you, but if you just capped your primary class and have been playing since beta and you've been playing "Hard" all year as you claim, then you're doing it wrong.

I made friends with a newbie this week who has managed to hit 50 within 7 days, and thats not all the fast either.

    .
Don't listen to this guy, Just because it took you a long time to level, doesn't mean you aren't playing hard. Like myself I appreciate people that take the time to enjoy what the game has to offer instead of blazing through what they "have to" leaving out the "don't need to" complaining about end game, and the lack of content. You are what this game needs, not more elitist at end game with out all the available content done.

... Wow. o.O I thought I saw the last of these elitist attitudes when I quit World of Warcraft.

You're so pro, I bet you just ooze epicness. </sarcasm>

OP, don't let anyone give you crap for being one of the people who actually took your time and enjoyed playing the game with a static partner. My husband and I do that in all the MMOs we play, and it's a very rewarding experience. If anything, it's a testament to learning the game and your class, since you obviously didn't PL like a noob.

I feel your pain in your class not being the proverbial flavor the month. I was an endgame raider in WoW, and had to sit out on some ICC runs because I was a Holy Priest, which had become the red headed stepchild of healers (everyone wanted Discipline Priests or Holy Paladins, not that the latter ever seems to change). Don't take it personally (though I know it's hard not to). The fault really lies with SE, who needs to balance the classes. As others have stated, 1.20 will be a gamechanger in regards to class changes. Have a bit of patience, and hopefully we'll see some positive revisions.

If you're trying to join a pick-up group, expect some job/class/ability limitations. Random pick-ups rarely manage to attract the cream-of-the-crop players, so in order to counteract that, they lay some restrictions to make the fight as smooth as possible. After all, why would they allow a sub-par class in when they could probably get the class they want in maybe 5~10 more minutes of shouting?

In other words, if you want to do Ifrit as you are now, you will have to be the one that starts the party.

In other news, classes are getting completely turned on their heads in 1.20, so you and your partner may find yourselves desirable soon enough. Don't count on it though; with THM losing its native heals and all its debuffs, and ARC not likely to lose its animation lock, they're likely to continue being among the worst jobs to bring to the Ifrit fight. On the plus side, you certainly won't have to take GLD to 36 though; if Sentinel still exists beyond 1.20, it's looks like it's a GLD Lv1 ability.

This probably won't make you feel any better, but in order to do Ifrit with my linkshell, I did exactly what you're dreading. I took a completely new class to 50 (THM), then took another completely new class to 50 (CON because THM wasn't good enough on its own), as well as leveling GLD to 36, all because my vanilla MRD wasn't good enough.
