It would be similar to it filtering F**king, but not F**k.

1. Fuck would be filtered as **** and not as F**k.
2. Its also filtering words, which you can find in normal words. i.e. Harrassment: "ass", "Testicles be": "lesbe"

Lesbe is the German word for a gay female, not really a nice word tho. It happend also for me that i got german Bad Words filtered and im playing the english version. So there is a posibility of a Bug where languages are "crossing" each other.

Edit: wait.. isnt it also "lesbian" in english? So that would make sense. Did you try to type it like "Testicle's"?

Filtering on XIV isn't as bad as the anti-RMT filter when introduced to FF XI.

Saying "Merry Christmas" in French (Joyeux Noël) would get filtered and was considered as RMT spam, because of the "ë". Most of French words using accents like "à" or "ç" would get filtered as well, and that's a lot of common words. Saying "And that's it" (et voilà) was filtered too...

At least the issue mentioned above have been mostly fixed on XIV (and XI got updated as well), so SE did make a good progress.

Question. Does it filter out the how should i say, Extremely colorful language used by some of the npcs?

It always struck me as odd to have a profanity filter in a game where a class quest npc will call you the equivalent of "what slipped into your mothers ass crack when your father was finished".

The main difference with the NPC is that the word will be used once, while someone can just use a curse words tons of time, repeat it over and over, even in shout. So it does make a huge difference.

The bad language criteria used to rate games is (not only off course) given according to number of occurrences of curse words (no idea about ESRB, but that's how PEGI is working). Because one small curse in a wall of text is acceptable, 3 curses per sentence aren't.

As for your main question, I hardly believe that filtering applies to NPC.

I don't see the problem. In Ragnarok int. you can't write "weniger" (engl: less). And they have no toggle to turn it off.
