What else could be hidden in the Sea of Clouds

So this may have been discussed around here before...but flying around the Sea of Clouds there is a set of islands, just off the map to the north, that really stands out. Neverreap...everyone's favorite twister destination. Before reaching end game and knowing what they really were, they reminded me of islands from other FF games. Namely, FFXII and the Purvama like the Skycity of Bhujerba.

We already know that Stormblood is taking us back to Ivalice. We have sky pirates just like XII. Now...I want them them to find Lemurés...I need this to happen.

    This would mean finding the
    Aegyl.

From the wikia, "Thousands of years before the events of Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, the aegyl were simply another race inhabiting the world of Ivalice. However, they and their leader Feolthanos refused to serve and worship the Occuria, the self-styled gods of Ivalice. Feolthanos used this opportunity to lead his people in an exodus to the skies, settling in a number of floating islands and naming their new home Lemurés.

Outraged, the Occuria used the power of the skystone to create a barrier around Lemurés, effectively locking the aegyl within their newly christened world. Thus did the history and memories of the aegyl fade into Ivalice's legends."

They could be fit into the FFXIV lore so easily. It would also be nice to meet an ancient race that was still kicking. I could totally see a spin on the story as a new raid. Plus I really want a bird man character in the future. I was really hoping that the 3.0 MSQ would lead there since it seemed like a "hidden" clue like the pink ship. Turns out it was just a dungeon and we got a Allagan connection instead....but who knows what 4.0 Sea of Clouds will hold.

Considering that the development team already stated outright that Ivalice and Hydaelyn are separate worlds with no connection to each other, I'm taking that 'Return to Ivalice' thing as a metaphorical reference in name only and not physically going to FFXII's world:

A55: To be absolutely clear, there is no connection between FFXIV’s Hydaelyn and FFXII’s Ivalice. Likewise there is no connection with FFXI’s Vana’diel. Each are their own individual world. Based on this, there are connections between the things that appear in the world, and we’ll be revealing more in the future.

A: Maehiro: To be absolutely clear, there is no direct connection between FFXIV’s Hydaelyn and FFXII’s Ivalice or even FFXI’s Vana’diel. They are not the same world in different dimensions or time—they are their own separate worlds. However, there are certain connections to people or objects that appear in these other worlds that figure into the story of FFXIV as it has been conceived and is being told.

Yoshida: We’ll be revealing more as we move forward.
So basically, I'm only expecting a fanservice reference dungeon from FFT or FFXII that is in name only and is not the FFXII/FFT version, but a lore specific place for FFXIV that just happens to have a name from FFXII or FFT with certain enemies from those games in it, like the Crystal Tower being an Allagan ruin and not the actual FFIII version. But I guess we'll find out.

I wouldn't be terribly surprised if they did end up making Ivalice connected to Hydaelyn somehow. With crossover events with the likes of Yo-Kai and Garo cropping up it doesn't feel like too much of a stretch for Square Enix to play on the hype surrounding the FFXII Remaster releasing later this year. It's not like it'd be the worst thing in the world either.

The biggest issue is that a physical connection (ie, the Ivalice of the Ivalice Alliance games = a physical location on Hydaelyn) contradicts pretty much everything we know about the history (and geography) of both, and also contradicts some very clear and definitive statements by Yoshida on the matter. A brief crossover is one thing, especially given that those tend to be of dubious "canon"; outright stating the world of the two games is one and the same is quite another. I don't think it's impossible, but I do think it would be done at the cost of some of XIV's own unique identity, and I'd rather let it be its own world than simply be shuffled into another.

Would be pretty nifty to explore the Sea of Clouds further in future expansions. Wouldn't even mind if we found a new playable race there of Bird-like people, though somehow, I doubt it.
