As it stands now Feast is just not fun. Without chat it's an absolute circus of confusion as there is no more team. Everyone just runs around randomly and with all the new players coming, I can't explain the feast to them as I have in the past. So they run around confused and are completely unaware of the objective. What anything does, that they have their own personal limit break, etc. If I wanted chaos I would just play Frontlines.
You have ZERO active help to introduce or explain the mode to anyone. In fact I could not find any active help related to pvp at all. The community serves as that active help and wants to help others improve. If you want us to continue to have a community we need to be able to continue to build these relationships. To teach each other all the things that aren't taught or explained by the game. I've been pvping since secure, it is the most serious and most enjoyable part of this game for me. This sets an absolutely terrifying precedent.
Since secure, I learned so much in frontlines and tips and tricks and so many things that are never taught to me or anyone. Brd/Mch dropoff, boosts and losses to atk and def based on class, the fact that purify works on others, and so much more. When the community revived wolves den while it lay ignored to have fun and enjoy the mode with each other, were some of the most fun moments in this game for me back in ARR, I learned a lot about my playstyle and how to handle these situations to survive and really get the most out of my pvp abilities.
Fast forward to Heavensward and we're told we are getting a competitive mode and everyone in the community is excited. We wanted these ladders and to pit ourselves against each other, climbing solo and team queue (though team queue isn't alive at all on Aether for the most part.) It was great, season 1 and season 2 were a lot of fun, I met a lot of new players, I made a lot of new friends, sure there were bad apples here and there but no more so than I've seen in duty finder in experts, leveling, 24 man raids, alexander, etc. but this is still very heavy handed.
You are punishing the whole community for just a few select people, which is unfair to the rest of us who try to make this community inviting and catching players up, and helping them become better players so they too can climb the ladder. I may not be the best player, I am far from it, but Feast was one of the most fun parts of the game for me.
Without chat everything else is removed, I'm no longer playing an MMO. I'm no longer meeting new faces, making connections, and teaching while still learning from others myself. I find it really hard to care because you can't coordinate. The buttons we're given to chat don't communicate anything. We are no longer a team but 4 separate people all going our own ways. It's a very single player experience. Which is not what pvp or an MMO in general should be. I shouldn't boot up an MMO to not be able to communicate with anyone else. It genuinely feels like an attempt to destroy the PVP community, not help it improve!
As for the chat system buttons, I feel it would be decent with the normal chat available as an option to cover what you cannot. There are so many things missing I've given up on healing and feast altogether. Feast just feels like a husk, soulless, and dull. It wasn't perfect but with one swift move you've destroyed nearly every aspect about it that was good.
Please rethink your decision on this. I love the community, I love everything we've built over the years, and I love this game, I want to see PVP grow, and continue to improve. I would like to be able to play with my team and aid them, instead of feeling like I'm fumbling around unable to figure out what they expect of me or trying to discern what they're planning.
