I think that was in response to my theory that it would be a Rhalgr corrupted and summoned as the Anima we're familiar with from FFX. Don't see why, with the different backstory, there can't be a genderswap though.

The only other god I recall being full of pain and longing also had Chains, and iirc turned into Shinryu too. But it's not like *that* story would repeat. Right?

Infact if it turns out we can take it down I will be rather pissed we sacrificed an Ally for no good reason.
Oh we WILL fight whatever the primal is. Its not a question of it, but when. Now if that "when" is "3.56" then it'll probably be "Omega weakened it but its still about to rampage, yet even though we win the trial it goes cutscene mode meaning we didn't actually beat it, que our new antagonist Zenos coming in and actually capturing the damn thing." Would give us even more reason to actually go into Ala Mhigo, to prevent the Garleans from using the Primal for their own military conquests.

Hasn't Doomtrain been pretty aggressively hinted at for 5.0? I think it got asked about directly at FanFest, and it was basically said that Doomtrain was being saved for when we were on Garlean turf.

what about a Primalized Ilberd like Ject from FF10? (yes my spelling sucks) 1 thing I have yet to see in-instance is a Primal(s) vs Primal I mean Ramuh's beast tribe is nearby (aside from Ultima beating Ifirit/Garuda/Titan silly) yes it would be semi-silly to fight fire with fire thus burning the planets Aether faster but u can't excact tell a hostile Primal summoner to not summon their Primal/God & have it fight this other Primal u'r dealing with (thou then u get the possibility of the "Victor" obsorbing the "Loser"... which just sounds worse)

The reason I don't consider Anima a likely suspect is because she was female in her only other appearance. That's not to say it's impossible, but I don't think it's probable given what we know.

This is actually my real suspicion - Ilberd (re)incarnated as Rhalgr, rather than a simple primal as we've known them. That's my current hypothesis, though there isn't really much to support it beyond idle speculation.

So are we operating under the assumption that this primal requires no worshipers to exist? Cause the main issue I hold with the Anima and Shinryu options is that every primal before now has needed worshippers to be sustained. Its why the Allagans kept so many in stasis.

Sure, maybe you could corrupt an existing primal but then it wouldn't really be Rhalgr though would it and Rhalgr worshippers wouldn't sustain it.

What Ilberd said certainly implied something along those lines, although I took it more as "desperation is a substitute for genuine belief" rather than "this Primal doesn't need prayer to exist."

Personally, I'm on Team Rhalgr. Shinryu relies too heavily on an outside (and arbitrary) connection between it an Omega, Anima is a total grasp, and Rhalgr is the actual deity of the people being slaughtered (even if it's just via lip service).

Shinryu wouldn't even be on the table were it not for Nidhogg's eyes being used and the fact Omega's going to combat it.

It's Rhalgr, more likely than not. Rather pedestrian, but then again one of the Resistance soldiers prayed to Rhalgr with his dying breath. Ilberd, as the Griffin, had also made himself into a symbol of hope for the Resistance. This is why I'm expecting Ilberd to have hijacked the Primal in a way, or at least have his will more evident in its psyche than would otherwise be normal.
