And at the end, Ilberd got exactly what he wanted: The alliance started to enter Ala Mhigo.

The thing is, Shinryu actually uses Thunder to destroy the omega arma... And that was actually the only time Shinryu seemed like winning... Plus, we know that Shinryu is an ancient monster in mhigans' folklore. So how exactly can we be sure this isn't, at least in some way, the first being that would later be revered as Rhalgr ?
That's far fetched, but maybe, Shinryu and Rhalgr are one and the same. I mean, Shinryu literraly means "Spirit Dragon", so it was revered by ancient mhigans as a spiritual being... Maybe, as centuries passed, the "priests" (monks) became the ones that were seen as "divine", so Rhalgr was pictured as a monk... But the primal would still be Shinryu, and its soul would have answered to the prayers for Rhalgr, its "human representation"...
Except, they said Shinryu is Doman, not Ala Mighan....
Pro DPS tactic: Big glowing orange AOE = "Stand here to boost your DPS!"
~Non Requiem Aeternum~
Dragon GodShinryu literraly means "Spirit Dragon"
Shin = God

I think it's Doman folklore, hence the Japanese name.
... Granted, misread that the first time, as I was talking with a FC mate during the cutscene... Still, Shinryu does use thunder, so it may be that "Shinryu", whatever it is, and Rhalgr are mixed in it.
And Jonny, shin means god, new, spirit... Shinryu is often translated as Spirit Dragon, and Shenlong, the belief inspiring Shinryu, is a master of storm and rain, and shenlong can also be understood as spirit dragon as well as god dragon...

Shinryu uses lightning but he isn't lightning based, in every FF game he's been in, he uses EVERY element. From watching that fight, Shinryu uses a number of his famous attacks: Tsunami, Lightning, and Atomic Ray. Omega uses Heat-seeking Missile and Delta Attack.
Yeah, thanks, I know who Shinryu is...
My point is : this guy popped up when Rhalgr should have. So maybe it's because of Niddhog's eyes, but there has to be a connection with Rhalgr somehow, or this is just pure fan-service... So MAYBE we could try and think about it, instead of just repeating to ourselves "that's Shinryu. There's nothing to understand. Shin. Ryu."...
Pretty sure that was Wave Cannon, not Delta Attackhttp://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Final_Fantasy_V

Shinryu looks similar to the monk PVP weapon/gear Fangs of the Rising Dragon. I don't know if it is related but when I saw it in the video I immediately thought of the weapon.

They explained his form as due to the summoner wanting another calamity scale primal and Bahamut being the version of that Ilberd was familiar with. I can roll with that. The Summoner shapes the Primal. My major grip is how the primal remains summoned without worshipers, assuming we face him later. He could temper some people but right now it seems a stretch to think he is sustained by coincidentally being identified as a mythical beast by a group of refugees. If that was the plan, it was rather short sighted by Ilberd and kind of a fluke it worked.
