I beg to differ, once you have an account and sub you can play anywhere. The only reason you've gotta buy the PS version is because there is No download. Honestly just google ffxiv client and play

Valkyrie_Lenneth is correct. Is it intuitive or sensible? No. But this is Square Enix we're talking about here. They're known for their arcane account and billing procedures and interfaces.

I eventually ended up purchasing heavensward separately on PC and Mac and PS3 - even though I had it on PS4, and even though I have a single Mac that I boot into macOS and Windows. Without the platform-specific expansion license I couldn't even log in if I had logged out in Ishgard!

In contrast, FFXI used a single expansion registration which unlocked the expansion on all platforms. I wish SE would switch to that system for FFXIV as well - it would be much nicer for multiplatform players!

As could you walk up to my PC as a PlayStation user and put your details in and start playing. How do I know? I did transfered from xbox360 in ffxi to PC, never bought the PC version. This is not XI and does not work the same way, you can only log in on the system you have a license for. Here image from mog statation



I have license for PC ARR (I have HW laying around just never input the code) and PS4 for ARR and HW.

I had PS3 license but when I upgrade to PS4 it moved my license to PS4 and removed my PS3 also notice that I do not have a license for Mac either so I would not be able to log in on PS3 or Mac and if in HW area would not be able to log in on PC until I moved my character out into a ARR zone using my PS4. Also I don't know why you mentioning xbox 360 as XIV never been on the 360.
