    PS4 or PS4 Pro?

I'm currently playing FFXIV on my PS3 (not so much lately due to performance issues) and am about to buy a Playstation 4. Now I'm wondering if the PS4 Pro will give more performance for FFXIV than the regular PS4, and if so how much. I've also seen a demo of FFXIV in PS4 VR and am wondering is this SoA feeling will be implemented later on, or if it was just a one-time demo.

There was a VR demo of this?! Anyway of you're going to pick, i will just come out and say get the Pro. It's pretty much a step up to the original. Too lazy to look it up, but if remember correctly it cost somewhere at $399.99.

    Price is indeed around $400/€400.

I also figured that the Pro would be better since it'd use a lot of GPU power for all characters in towns (and other busy locations). And looking at how long it takes my PS3 to load up in any of the major towns now, I have time to grab a coffee before all is there (and I can interact with the NPCs).

I would just go with the Pro. In my opinion, if you're going to spend money on a PS4, you might as well spend a little more and get the best option.

As for the VR demo, I believe it was just a showcase, but there was never any actual intent to fully implement VR into FFXIV. I feel like that would be a nightmare to both develop and to play.

FFXIV doesn't have a Pro patch so it doesn't support the Pro properly. This means it playes normally on the Pro but at the same performance with the regular PS4. The Pro has 2 separate chips. The secondary one can be used only when the developer releases a Pro specific patch. This happens for compatibility reasons. For now XIV didn't mention any Pro support so this means XIV doesn't see any improvements on Pro over the regular PS4 until they release a patch and support it properly. If you want XIV to support the Pro make a separate thread and ask there. Just like we did with the High Resolution textures and 4K support on PC.

I'm not sure if the performance would be the same on both Slim and Pro. I've heard (horror) stories of The Last Guardian, where the Slim had problems on the graphical part where the Pro would run is normally. Though TLG does have Pro support, the GPU of the Pro is around 2.25% faster than that of the Slim, making by default faster when rendering huge amounts of (N)PCs in the game.

Good call though to ask for Pro support. Though I don't think 4K on PS4 is workable for a PS4 MMO, I think on 1080p there might be a massive improvement over the Slim though...
