The potions would be a problem if Squeenix hadn't learned from its mistakes with dark knight, astrologian, and machinist. Clearly they have by only requiring you to defeat ultima weapon to unlock red mage and the second class they're releasing.

People tend to hate how Astrologian is basically a copy of either WHM/SCH depending on which stance they choose. Square Enix also decided to release them hilariously underpowered, making them have a horrible reputation for about a full year.

At the very least, they could have released Astrologian with competitive numbers instead of "lol have two thirds of a whm or a third of a scholar".

Or maybe people could just get over it and not be outraged over the idea of having to unlock things in a video game.

To be fair, it's usually better to release classes undertuned instead of overtuned. Balance is not an easy initial hit to make.

They went above and beyond in making sure Astro was pathetic compared to the other healers. It's one thing to make them somewhat undertuned, it's another to basically say "We don't ever want you using this job in serious situations".

You can cut it out with the victim complex, now. AST was undertuned, but even Gordias clears still happened. Even at the job's lowest point in power.

If what I read is correct from the posts about yesterday's stream, you don't even need to beat Ultima Weapon just A.) Get ONE War or Magic job to 50 and B.) Be able to access the required area...which will be a 2.0 area and thus might be one of the original city-states.
