Nah even if you are new it should be quiet obvious what your job is as healer class. If you have time to cast dps skills you do your job as heal wrong in pvp.He said he's new and he's legitimately asking for advice. Don't come at him like that. That's the kind of talk that validates people bagging on PvP being "toxic" or uninviting to new people.
New guys ask questions, give them straight answers, and maybe they'll stick around long enough to not be new anymore.
Ok, so what should I be doing instead? How can I help my team more? I'm very much used to being expected to DPS as well as healing/shielding/leeching. So now I'm trying to debuff as well where I can but I'm new to this so I'll need advice. =)

I main healer in Frontlines; I think I have a pretty solid grasp of the mode and how to use cooldowns to keep myself/others alive. I STILL think I'd have time to DPS in FL, especially in Shatter during ice phase. OP's assumption isn't unusual or unreasonable by any means. There's a lot of downtime during ice. If I had time to Sprint, Swiftcast Repose and Fluid Aura people off ledges in Slaughter (an arguably more hectic and healing-intensive mode than Shatter), I would definitely have time to DPS in Shatter if it weren't so wasteful to do so.
OP, during ice I'll usually just Attunement troll to bait people into wasting DPS on me rather than ice, Celestial Opposition stun a pile of healers/casters to disrupt them, heal people in other parties if they're taking a beating that requires multi-healer support, or re-apply Stoneskins on people who aren't currently taking damage cuz why not. WHM can at least sleep ranged attacking ice and be moderately useful, but aside from giving my team good card buffs as an AST during ice I am usually bored out of my mind. At least the actual PVP parts require me to stay on my toes.
