    More sustainable servers would solve that issue, if speculation is correct and it's overpopulation plus cross pf stress, their equipment just can't handle what's happening. It's only happened on Aether, not primal or anywhere else, so that whole fishing thing just seems like smoke and mirrors to start with.

    Oh, that may have been an actual issue, but it may not be the root cause.
    They have lots of sustainable servers, people just transferred off for "greener pastures." In reality, they need to lock down Balmung and Greg, and LEAVE them locked, to EVERYTHING. No world transfers to either, and free transfers off, along with the removal of the gil restriction specifically for people leaving them. Add housing wards to the other servers and make it so you can transfer housing between servers.

    It could have been fishing ya, but I don't see how something we did since 2.0 is now killing the game. It's true they can't just flip the switch and put new hardware into play, and I don't really know how a transfer between world's would work, since the same amount of traffic would still be there just dispersed out. Before this patch only Bal and Gig only had issues with them being full, now the whole center is dying? I could agree that it is cross pf related, but at the same time that would mean the netcode is so weak for this function that no matter what they do aether will be getting hit left and right.

    So the datacenter is a cluster of servers connected together. Each cluster has the world servers, instance servers, lobby server and all attached to them. Now, what can happen, when you have multiple servers at capacity, is they will bog the cluster down, and can result in a crash. If the traffic from a set of servers exceeds the clusters limitations, then boom.

    This is all generalization, I have no idea how SE has the servers set up, but its a good example.

    But let's say you take half of Bal and add it to my server Jenova, and half of Gig and put it into Siren, wouldn't that still cause the same issues? IF the issue pertains to overpopulation, how do you determine who gets moved off? It's not like people would be willing to abandon friends, fc, houses, and gil, simply because of being overpopulated. Even if you lock the server, the issue with all the data present on those two are still going to cause a crash, so how would SE determine who gets the boot to another world?

    Granted there are very small world's like Gob and Mat on our center, that would benefit a migration, the issue is still present. How do you encourage people to go smaller? So really in my eyes, outside of just doing a massive hardware update which could be very costly and highly lengthy, anything done right now would just be pushing issues under the rug and hoping they go away.

    That wasnt a defense. It was an explanation of how a server cluster could possibly get overwhelmed due to traffic overload. Now you are just showing how irrational you are.

    They won't because it has a far higher chance of backfiring. Plenty of people who play were invited by friends. I likely wouldn't be playing had a friend of mine not mentioned FFXIV and the roleplay aspect of Balmung. Yes, they could transfer to a smaller server with their friends, but if you've already established roots, are you really going to leave, especially knowing you cannot ever transfer that character? At this point, they have to wait for Stormblood to hopefully funnel people into less populated servers.
