    Farming feels pointless in FF XIV

    Hi everyone,

    I am not here to spit on the game or whatsoever since i play it for a long time ( 2.0 with breaks in-between ) but i just can't have fun anymore relatively to the farming aspect of this game. Let me explain :

    - Equipments / Glamours are more easily obtainable after a patch. It means that the most optimal way to get this stuff is to wait the prices decrease after the patch launch. Why should i bother to farm it hardcore if i know i'd be able to get it in half the time required in the future, especially if i don't have the party to make savage raids.

    - Equipments feel useless : i don't have the feeling that i really need them for anything special to beat the " normal " content because the game is way too easy. Don't get me started on the Savage mode which is not that hard, the hardest part being finding good players ( but that's not the subject.... )
    Look at the new anima step, is it really necessary to put it on 3.5 now that there is not anymore hard content to do ? A bunch of people have killed Zurvan XM without it so why should we bother to farm it ?

    - The whole point seems to be glamour : Considering what i said previously, it seems that the hours i put in this game are just used for me to collect new glamours. Not that i don't like glamour, but it's sad to not use it to fight or to do something with ( the same goes with crafting, it's a really fun aspect of the game but i'm pretty sure crafting is useless outside the savage raids environment )


    What i'd like to see in this game :

    - More hard content for small parties : PotD is pretty cool and i guess they'll improve it further. But we need more of this type of content for people not being able to find 7 other players to make a savage content ( i work everyday from 9 to 19 but i still wqnt challenge even without much time ).
    Why not implement " Savage Dungeons " like the mythical dungeons in WOW ?
    Why not implement a solo arena like WOW where you have to kill waves of ennemies ? All of this content could use the Ilvl and create an intencive to farm stuff.....

    - Crafting should be necessary : Since launch, i've never understood why crafters put so much time into crafting the " BiS " since you can do a relatively good job and finish the hardest content with the " Freebie Stuff you get from Idylshire ".

    - I am a Monster Hunter veteran player, i spent more than 2k hours on each game and i totally love this game because even if you have to farm like crazy to get one specific piece of equipment, it is always challenging ! In ff xiv, the challenge is not the fight itself but the time managment you have to control to get your equipment. I would like to spend a lot of time farming while having fun trying to finish my goals.
    I don't find it fun to run in a dungeon where you have to kill 3 bosses and spam you mindless rotation to get your tokens......



    I love this game but the more breaks i take, the more i see why i can't stay for a long time before i take another break since i don't see why i should spend 100 hours now for one specific equipment if i could be able to get it in the future in maybe 20 hours. I love farming but i hate farming mindlessly. What do you guys think ?

    Yeah, everything in this game that you grind is basically for glamour. I don't see how it can be fixed though, since we're on a vertical progression curve and the devs don't seem to wanna change it. Maybe Eureka will be really good, or maybe the next Deep Dungeon will be amazing.

    This game was designed from the ground up for equipment - ALL equipment - to become obsolete, and to become obsolete QUICKLY. On top of that, even setting aside the fact that you'll need to chuck any piece of gear into the dumpster in 3-6 months, the stats on gear are boring, just the same mixture of primary stats and a handful of secondary stats. No oddball stats or special abilities. SE keeps all the gear simple, straightforward, and easy to balance.

    There's no piece of gear in the game that is exciting to get, and there likely never will be. It's just a fact of life that folks have to deal with. Try not to think about equipment, and instead focus on other things in the game that bring you enjoyment. Equipment is nothing more than a means to an end, not an end in themselves as they are in a lot of other games.

    I think the greater issue is that gear often becomes obsolete before it's even released.

    I think that the vertical nature of this game is too steep, even for what SE is clearly trying to accomplish, as far as gear goes. The fact that we no longer use set bonuses is mind boggling as it's one of the few bright points of gear customization in this game. Also consider there is no odd patch option for accessories leaving us with only 3 gearing sources per 2 patch wave (excluding dungeon options of course). Even more so since they took accessories from primals which was another incentive for people to challenge themselves.

    All together, with ilvls being at a near brain dead level combined with what I said above, I agree with the OP. It gets harder to care when the system is designed for you to do menial content with minimal effort for minimal reward that minimally matters.

    Ans its so saaad. They should make maybe like set bonuses, and make most lv70 gears on the same ilvl with different stats so we could mix and match

    Like any healer items with Det as the primary stat and no Crit, or anything with Parry...
