    Dragoon Rotation

So I have the Sharpened Trident of the Overlord lance, and a mix of crafted, prototype and Shire gear on my character. All shire accessories. I'm doing Zurvan ex but I always end up anywhere from 5-7 on the aggro scale while other dragoons in the party are like 2 and 3. This is the only way aside from Stone/Sky/Sea that I have to gauge my DPS in comparison to others of my same class.

    My opening rotation is:
    Heavy Thrust (Battle Litany)
    Blood for Blood
    Internal Release
    Impulse Drive
    Disembowel
    Blood of the Dragon
    Chaos Thrust
    Wheeling/Fang/Claw positioned accordingly
    Phlebotomize
    True Thrust
    Vorpal Thrust
    Life Surge
    Full Thrust
    Geirskogul

Normal Rotation is similar to that but weaving in jumps and leg sweeps. My skill speed is around 519 I think so that could be improved. But I can't think of any other way to squeeze out any more DPS. On Zurvan Ex I was parsed at around 1400 and I think I could do better.

    Any suggestions?

Check dervy yakimi videos on youtube, there is a great guide there to help you out.

Aggro scale is never a good way to judge damage output comparing yourself to other drg's based off of that is not going to get you any type of solid data. there is a million and one ways to improve food, melds, gear etc etc. if you think your rotation is off change it here and there until you think it is better and get someone to parse you. there is solid video from dervy on youtube I believe he released it for 3.4 talking all about rotation that should help as well.

I saw one where he attacked a dummy - and listed out the steps - Is that the one you're referring to? That's kind of what I'm following but dummies aren't what I'm having trouble with really - I have trouble with the very latest extreme primal, like I'm doing around 1400-1500 on Zurvan and that's the low end of the dps scale. I do around 2,000 dps on the opener though with pots/food.

Being able to do your dummy "ideal" rotation is a prerequisite to be able to do good dps in raids. Try to understand your dummy rotation first, then when you practice in raids you should take note of the mechanics and phase changes where you can't follow that rotation anymore, and figure out how you should modify it to be ideal in that raid. Basically you're trying to come up with an ideal rotation for every fight, and you should aim to be as close to the dummy rotation as possible, since that's the "best" rotation you can do. The modifications may include holding buffs, holding geirskogul, popping buffs earlier, skipping some skills (phlebo, full thrust combo), while prioritizing heavy thrust, blood of the dragon and disembowel uptime.

    One quick note:
    - A power surged jump under the Blood of the Dragon does 390 potency, which is 30 more potency than Full Thrust. Wherever possible, line Life Surge up with that.

Life Surge doesn't even work on Jump :/

Yep, I've seen both Life Surge + Geirskogul and Life Surge + Full Thrust but not the way you describe.

I love dragoon and I sincerely hope they will make the system more forgiving in 4.0

Life Surge + Geirskogul would give crit on the next gcd, which should either be full thrust, or a 4th combo skill (wheeling thrust or fang and claw). Life surge won't buff any jump, geirskogul or leg sweep.

You're using the wrong thing to judge your dps. Judge your dps by how well you went through your rotation. But to do that you'll need to do research on the optimal openers and rotation and perform them correctly on a dummy. You're definitely missing things in your opener. Start by taking a look through the How to DRG per second thread on these forums or do a quick guide search on YouTube. Dervy has a lot of good information on his channel. Follow those steps and you'll be well on your way to higher dps
