The question that remains for Warring Triad storyline and beyond (Spoiler)

I'm just pissed with the end of Regula van Hydrus.
Some people doesn't care about this character but I do, and I'm sure a lot of more are not happy either to see what the team did with him.

Just one question still remain (to ask to Devs team...): Did they kill Regula on purpose ?

I mean, they can make really good stories but for Garleans', especially Regula's, I was waiting for a lot more. For Garleans, probably that will come with Stormblood. But with a new villain, Zenos yae Galvus. Maybe we'll see a little of him in 3.55. But I don't care.
I can understand how they wanted to show us Regula. But why killing him more than helping him when he struggled to save OUR friend's live ? Putting a heroic moment huhu ? Or just because they wanted to kill him fast before 4.0 ? I'm for the second option really.

I wonder if there's the possibility of him faking death so he can claim the allagan technologies or perform other stealth ops in the shadow...

Honestly, the Warring Triad conclusion as a whole feels incredibly rushed. Regula barely pops on scene before getting killed off and everything wraps up within minutes following an equally underwhelming boss fight. It just feels like the devs ran out of ideas, especially considering the story up until that point had been pretty solid.

The whole thing did seem kind of abrupt, and now with Regula dead and most of his soldiers dead/wounded/evacuated, I'm not really sure what's going to happen to the Garlean presence in Azys Lla. A lot of interesting/troubling things could've come out of them staying there and getting their hands on Allagan technology lying around, and not keeping Regular around for the next expansion seems like a missed opportunity to me.

I'm of the opinion that experiments will end up being done on his body in an attempt to bring him back to life, OR he isn't actually dead yet but without said experiments pretty much will die. It will be condoned by Varis though more...unsavory ones even by the usual Empire villiany type standard will be done without his knowledge. Success will be had but Regula certainly won't be quite as sane afterwords.

This will bring him closer to being a Kefka expy, though I believe that will be the extent of it. Any further actions that paint him as such will end up being subversions of expectations.

You might be on to something, considering in FF6 Kefka/Terra/Celes scenario. Regula was inflicted with an interesting aether wounds when the blade cut into his body so if the rest of his body is still in tact, it's very possible they could use his body to perform experiments and try to harness the power of the Primal within him. If anything, we could see him return with the ability to "Trance" into Zurvan and I believe this to be possible and others might agree if you've done the SMN story-line, but I"ll leave that theory there for now without spoiling to much.

As we know Regula has a huge loyalty to the new Emperor, so it's very plausible to consider that in the eyes of the Emperor, they would see it as an open invitation to freely experiment on his dead corpse.

All I know is they really dropped the ball on the frakin WARRING TRIAD. They could have made this into such a good storyline and set of side quests. But it was boop boop boop oh look they are dead, the general died from a single hit and hi I'm from the void.

Seriously, whoever wrote this needs a new line of work and how anyone thought that was enough I haven't the foggiest.

Not going to lie, I forgot what we were even doing up there. Weren't the Triad keeping Azys Lla afloat? And since this was optional why did Ukelele gain some lasting(?) importance instead of Regula who was part of the MSQ? What was the point of tying the kid to the void to begin with? The story they tried to give to him would have worked much better in Shadows of Mhach.

I've always liked Regula and felt that he had an immense amount of potential. It's a shame that - like the Warriors of Darkness - his redeeming qualities were highlighted right at the end of his arc only for him to be killed off immediately afterwards. We're sorely in need of more reasonable, sympathetic Garleans who remain loyal to their Emperor, people and homeland but are capable of pragmatism and compromises even if it's only temporary and for the greater good.

There's a reason why antagonists such as Gabranth, Rufus and Seifer are so popular. A lot of people dig the whole 'not so bad after all' angle.

It's a bit of a kick in the teeth though. I hope his death has a long term meaning and positive impact - it painted the Emperor in a positive light given how pure the friendship between them happened to be. I also hope that we end up seeing more 'Regula' type Garleans in the future. Again, though, I'm only interested if they're not traitors to Garlemald.
