I wasn't expecting Regula to survive the 3.X series as Legatus seem to have a limited shelf life, but I do agree that the ended seemed a bit rushed. From Regula's sudden about-face on Allagan primal tech, to the Garleans suddenly leaving Azys Lla (?), to Unukalhai's confession and immediate induction into the Scions it kind of felt like to like devs were like "the series is ending, we need to wrap everything up before the expansion, chop chop!" I would have liked a bit more time to see a more of Regula's thought process or perhaps some input from some of the Scions beyond Y'shotla, Krile and Urianger about the events of the Warring Triad arc and Unukalhai's induction into the Scions.

The Devs have handled the Legatus’ in an odd fashion, but unique in some ways.

Nael got a lot attention in 1.0, even more so when Yoshi took over and used the Meteor Project to end its era. With ARR, more story was introduced in Coil and closed out Nael entirely. Her story was done very well imo and the lore book clarified the gender issue.

Gaius in 1.0 had an unbelievable intro and was against the Meteor Project as he would rather rule Eorzea than wipe it out entirely. ARR just did not give Gaius the justice he deserved. They did a great job giving more details on a legion’s structure and each Lt got attention in the story and some background as well as Cid. However, with Gaius himself, not so much. We are talking about the most accomplished Legatus, Conqueror, and Imperial Viceroy in modern Garlean history.

With Regula, we had multiple fights and development of his character and showing some of the intentions of Varis and the Empire. I do believe he was just used to fill in as an introduction to 4.0 with Zenos and his legion. Remember Zenos took over Viceroy when Gaius died and he is the son of Varis, so above a Legatus.

    Here are some interesting facts.

We witnessed 1.0 Nael completely turn to aether, she died and her aether was consumed by bahamut and turned into a thrall, which we defeated that form in coil.
When we defeated Gaius' Lts, we witnessed both completely turn to aether, aka die.
We never witnessed Gaius actually die and turn to aether.
With Regula, we saw aether-like particles coming off him or is it something to do with his armor? We never witnessed him completely turn to aether. His men even prepare his body for transport back to the Empire.

I was a bit miffed at the illusion of choice. My "friends" say it is up to the WoL to decide whether to help the enemy. I tell Regula to piss off, and then they all run after him anyway, dragging my bemused butt along with them. gg

Well, in seeing all your comments I see that I'm not the only one thinking it's just too rude how he just died. And that make me happy. Even if we can't change his faith (or that would be a miracle...) I wish they could make more about his story and his point of view.

What we all asking to the Dev/Lore team, it's just make sense about some characters, make their deaths worth it. I mean, in the Warring Triad story, we don't see the "moment" where Regula change his mind about allagan technologies and want more our power to save that world. That would be a lot more interesting to see him to start to make "friend/friend" to learn a lot more about us and Unukalhai's abilities in some cutscenes or quests. Then when we see he is willing to give his life for this power and to protect us, there I would accept his death. So for me, his end have no sense enough to be credible.

Then what I fear the most, they will make another villain (Zenos) then what ? We'll see him like in 4 cutscenes again and that will be the end ? That how they are doing it since ARR, looks at Gaius, he could be an very interesting character (at least in 1.0...) we see him 4x time before the Praetorium cutscene then poof.
