    Desynthesis. help!

Hey guys, just starting to get into crafting (highest is only around level 40) and wanted advice for desynth.

    1) whats the benefit for it? just for money?
    2) what are the best classes to desynth with?
    3) how do i get started with desynth? (already have the skill from Ul Dah guy)

    any help would be appreciated

    1) There are crafting materials you can only get by desynthing (demimateria, materials for the Zodiac weapon quest, etc). You can make a mint making primal-themed weapon glamours, for example.
    2) CUL (especially if you grind leveling FSH) and GSM are pretty painless. Though, as far as I know, CUL can't desynth anything for demimateria, but you CAN get a minion from a specific fish, as an example.
    3) You'll have to craft level 1 items and then desynth them. In the case of CUL, catch level 1 fish, and desynth those. The chances of success will start low, but will get higher and higher as you do it more. For the most part, you will only gain desynth xp if there is a chance of failure, so you'll have to craft (or find) harder things to desynth. Another way to start off is by buying level 1 battle equipment from vendors in the city-states and desynthing those.

Hope that helps in your crafting endeavor!

Benefits for desynth really only exist at this time up to about level 110-130. That is high enough that you can get every type of Demimateria in the game. After that you're leveling it up in the hopes that they add something in the future.
As far as I know the only profitable uses of desynth in 3.0 has been for a short window of time when Luminous Fibers were going for 200k+, but at this point I wouldn't justify all the leveling for that alone.

CRP and ALC are by far the WORST desynths to level. CUL(fishing is easy) GSM, WVR,LTW,ARM,BSM all aren't too bad with dungeon drops feeding you levels. CRP/ALC you're pretty much relying on bows and book weapons, with a few canes and spears, and if you can't Need roll on them, you won't be seeing a whole lot of them. I personally crafted ~300 Dispelling Arrows to level my CRP from about 150-190. My next step will be either farming for BISex, RAVex, or Raijodo (centurio seals) weapons for another 10 levels. Please don't join me in my masochistic campaign.

Take Mnemosis' suggestion and pick up CUL/GSM and something else. But if you want them to be at all useful in 4.0 (assuming SE hasn't truly forsaken the system) you'll need them leveled at least to 200 to start desynthing 4.0 gear at a reasonable %

Also check out this thread, it's stopped updating around the start of 3.1 but it should provide you a solid guide to start with

I'd only recommend MAXING your desynth out for leatherworker, weaver, or goldsmith since there's so much super cheap high level glamour gear for all of those that you grind your desynth up with.

the #1 benefit is it turns your old gear that you can't convert to materia into something you can sell and usually for considerably more than the GC Seals that you would get from turning them in.

best classes mostly depends on your jobs.

GSM is good for everyone, LTW is generally decent for most. WVR especially good for non-tanks/DRGs. ARM is decent for tanks and DRGs.

BSM, ALC, CRP are all fairly difficult.

FSH is good for anyone that would fish.

there are some stretches of levels that are best done by buying stuff from vendors. it'll cost money leveling but if you keep it up so that you can desynth current expert dungeon gear you should make all your money back and more.

I actually found this thread shortly after. i'm finding it really useful. I've decided to level my WVR first, and then do GSM and maybe BSM/LTW
