    Well it still had a lot to do with the calamity, since the whole story in 1.0 is about guiding the moon/meteor to earth.

    The Dalamud storyline was not present in the game until Yoshida took over. Answers have been in the game since the very beginning.

    The fact it wasn't IN the game at that time says nothing about Tanaka's plans which we never saw so it's very possible that the story was headed there from the outset and so the idea that "Answers" is indeed the 'theme' for the Calamity and all that surrounds it is valid.
