SE should get what they never had

SE should get what they have never had since the release of this game... Time! People complain about what this game is lacking, what it needs to improve, what needs fixed, and what needs added. Well I do not think SE will gain any fans by pushing to re-open the servers in a week. Keep them down for a month or more, whatever is needed to get this game on track. They need to take the time right now to help themselves and their families before they get back to work. However when they do decide to go back to work the priority should not be opening the servers asap. No I think they should fix everything while we, the players, are taking a break. No matter if they re-open the server in 1 week or 1 month there will be the same number of people that will leave the game and not come back, and the same number of people sitting on the edge of their seats waiting for the game to come back. I say if you are going to bring it back then bring it back with the changes we are looking for. This game has been rushed from day one. That is the problem. This earthquake / tsunami is a horrible tragedy. But of all things bad can come something good. I say put us Final Fantasy fans in suspense waiting for the re-release of Final Fantasy XIV the way it was meant to be played. A complete game we can all be proud of and something we can make fun of other MMO players who haven’t spent the last 6 or more months getting their Eorozean character to physical level 50.

For those of you who are impatient and want the game back now I ask you this. Would you rather play the game again tomorrow and wait 6 months to a year for them to implement all the updates they want, or can you wait a little while and play something else and get this game back better than ever? Tell me your thoughts.

Sadly you have a great point but I think because it is a temporary thing it's not going to change their scheduling priorities at all. Tanaka should have just called off a 2010 launch back in alpha. I'm happy with the outcome though, I feel like I'm playing beta but I get to keep my character. It's a good escape even if the game is a lot more incomplete than I ever realized.

Agreed. There were beta forums full of testers screaming that it wasn't ready and imploring SE to push back the launch date.

    First impressions are everything.

But I think time is something they don't have. Even Yoshi-P has said that time is of the essence, and swift action must be taken to get things back on track.

The earthquake tragedy couldn't have come at a worse time for SE.

This is a difficult thought, its like whats your favorite video game (its simple at first but then blurs as you think about it). I have to say that the game seams perfect to me and i would like to play sooner than to wait. I wouldn't mind a week or even a month of offline mode for the people of japan, but not for game updates.

I don't understand why you believe keeping the servers down would reduce the time it takes to
"fix" the game. I very much doubt that the Mods or Network people also dual skill into programming and artists.

Creation of new content takes time, the servers being on isn't going to slow that down.

So my question is this - if for example, it takes 6 months to "fix" this game regardless, would you rather spend that time playing or sitting with your thumb up your unmentionable area?

Give them time, stop looking for the world to be made in 7 days.

    Obstacle, not a barrier.

Ya, SE didn't have time to make this game. They only had a working tech-demo ready in 2005.

Tanaka was probably not the person who said "We're releasing this day." it was most likely Wada. Surprisingly hes been really quiet since Tanaka stepped down from a full time producer job to just being a consultant/lowlevel exec at the company.

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

Given another year, Tanaka probably wouldn't have saved this game.

It's not time constraints that screwed FFXIV over, it was Tanaka.

I could not have said it better myself (’-’*) フフ

My heart go's out to Japan and I hope they recover from this sad and unfortunate event. I have no issues about the servers being down at this time. but to keep them down for 6 months so they can fix everything would just kill the game. Thats 6 months to get stuck into Rift or some other MMO due to be released soon. I say get the server back on and continue freeplay until they are ready for the BIG update that will solve all the issues.
