Sorry, my mistake
Sorry, my mistake

Our heroes hear through the echo, makes them tone deaf - and terrible singers :3
(Just made that up, but it does allow us to hear any language no prob, so i guess someone could whip up something up about it, changes how people sound.. thing.).

You cant go by that logic that they heard Ilberd's voice. We recognized his voice because we were conditioned to look for it, or we thought to look for it, since this is a work of fiction with limited voices. In real life people have different voice registers and depending on what is said, and in what tone, voices can sound similar to one another. There is a reason why someone might confuse you for your mom or dad over the phone, because you might sound similar without a basis to go off of. In the case of the game, while our character might think its Ilberd, it cannot be verified until he removes his mask or performs certain manorisms, specific to him. This is one of those instances where reality is stranger than fiction, our minds can be tricked rather easily.
I like helping people with their Job ideas, it's fun to help them visuallize and create the job they'd like to play most. Plus I make my own too, I'll post them eventually.
I replayed my own voicemail once and could've sworn it was my brother. That's exactly what my brother sounds like on the phone when i talk to him. Neither of our parents nor his wife can tell us apart on the phone.
Also to think that it could be a fair amount of time between patches. Granted I do not watch the cutscenes or read the dialogue but could be weeks to months between the events that have happened, I'd probably forget voices too.
Our own voice sounding different is not quite the same as other people, we hear our own voices through our head - so that experience isn't really comparable to listening to others. I can recognize most actors by their voice, I'm awful with faces - so I'm not sure how much voice tone would change my judgment on who is who but I could say that a mask muffles/shifts stuff so that's possible.
Just because you know something doesn't mean the characters do, even if they should have. This is the equivalent of yelling at your TV over a character doing something you think is dumb.
Would you like them to use the blank black character model instead? XD Also masks muffle voices, just because it sounds clear in game doesn't mean in reality you would know someone who they were if they were wearing a mask.
They never met the real Griffin, just the proxy, so no, it wasnt him, nor his voice actor. (Heck the 2.0 voice actor is different than the one from 3.0 as well, so no, you just THINK you recognize him. But yes, the main characters should have, IF they actually ever heard it.)
I knew it was Ilberd though, only because he wore a mask, and there would be no point hiding his face, if we the players didnt know who he was already.
of course that was the worst possible idea they could have used.
(1) Ilberd didnt care about doing "the right thing" even for Alamigo, as he was just looking out for himself and coin.
So for him to now suddenly argue about how the "right thing" needs to be done is out of character.
(2) He had no reason to hide his face, other than to prevent the player from seeing it, as the Alamigo resistance isnt going to hate Ilberd for any reason.
(3) being the self centered person he was, he coulda survived the summoning, and used everyone else but himself, as thats more in character of him.
A better idea would be to use the old Tyranical leader of Alamigo (i forget his name) who was over thrown, which lead to garleans invading, while the place was weakened.
He could have wanted to take it back, which makes him look like a good guy, showing a sort of "change" in his way of thinking, trying to be the good guy, only to still want things his way, like before, but now he has been given the power to do so.
He should have finished summoning his primal, AND should have nearly destroyed half of galremald before being stopped.
Not one single player actually thinks Garlemald will be destroyed before we go to visit them.
Imagine how different the world/story would be, with such a devastating blow to the empire.
Anyways, they took the cheap route, and used cliched story methods, to reach uninteresting results.
If I remember correctly, part of the reason Ilberd hated Raubahn so much was because he felt he had abandoned his home IE Ala Mhigo. He needed coin to help fund the/his resistance...said so himself that many of those who took part in the false flag operation were more motivated by coin (presumbably greed overpowering their fear of the Empire that patriotism did not.) Given that he had also already taken Ala Mhigan lives and was known to atleast backstab one organization he may have felt the mask was needed to ensure people didn't just think he was an opportunist. For example Osbert, who was inspired by our character early on in our adventurers, would almost certainly not be helping Ilberd if he had known the Griffon was him.
With this said, it seems that while Ilberd had more going for him when it came to planning for the resistance movement up to and including being charismatic enough to bring many to his cause and smart enough to have enough coin to persuade them into actually doing things...he is a TRUE believer in freeing Ala Mhigo. He knows that even his resistance isn't enough...either he would ultimately need the other City-states to help or he would need to bring in a higher power. He knows Primals are strong, and thats before he even joined the Braves. He most likely also gained some more knowledge beyond what he knew from the Ascians off screen. Elidibus must have had some dealings with him atleast after his defeat during 3.0 and before giving him the eyes. With all this, his apparently knowing that the fervent prayers of the dieing for salvation could finally free his homeland? He would gladly give his life.
And so he did.
This is of course assuming I remember that detail from 2.5 right. If not everything I said here could be wrong.
As far as Ilberd and the mask goes...almost EVERY SINGLE PLAYER guessed correctly that the Masked Man was going to be Ilberd before he even put on the mask. In part because we know things our character has no way of knowing. If the game was real life most likely the mask would already be affecting his voice simply because its slightly distorted just coming out of the mask, and thats before going into what others have said about one and the like. And of course we didn't really interact with the actual Griffin that much, we had more interaction with Osbert as one of the fake Griffons.
