Frequent R0 lag spikes and freezing

    Details:

During normal gameplay, throughout multiple times in a day, and in various settings in Eorzea such as in town or out alone in the field, I will randomly get a red R0 at the top right of my screen. This is accompanied by everything in my screen coming to a stop, both PCs and NPCs.

This has occurred with multiple computers at my home, including my desktop and two different laptops. I suspect it's a connectivity issue but have no idea how to attempt to correct it as this is the only game where I seem to have R0 lag spikes. I don't recall ever getting R0 on FFXI, don't disconnect or freeze on World of Warcraft, Diablo 2, or from playing League of Legends.

On additional testing with Pingtest and Speedtest, I have noted that my download speed and upload speeds average 15 mbps and 1 mbps respectively, with 0% packet loss on several trials.

I cannot replicate the connectivity issues with my home connection on any other application or game besides FFXIV.

    Steps:

    1. Log in, play FFXIV, and for most of the time everything is going fine. I get smooth FPS and green connection for probably 90% of the game experience.

    2. Randomly, while in town, or out in field areas such as Camp Horizon, Cassieopeia Hollow, or Coerthas, the green S & R icon at the top right of my screen will turn red and say R0. This occurs while soloing, or in small or large parties, or in town.

    3. The above occurs frequently throughout the day at seemingly random intervals and last for 15-30 seconds or longer. Afterwards, the game will come back to life and I will see a green connection again. R0 spikes can occur again soon after or be delayed between occurances.

Date & Time: October 6 2011 till current day 10/14/11

Frequency: 3 or 4 occurences every 15 minutes. Last for about 15-30 seconds then everything is good again until the next incidence. Sometimes can go for long periods without a R0 spike.

    Platform: PC

PC Manufacturer & Model Number: Incident has occurred on multiple systems. Will list my primary system specs.

    Cyberpower Custom Desktop

    OS: Windows 7
Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce 560 Ti 2Gb
    ISP: Cox
    Type of Internet Connection: Cable

    Additional Notes:
*During an R0 lag spike, I can still move my character
*I get very good FPS at all times, even in crowded cities. While R0'ing I maintain good FPS when I move around and spin the camera around, it's just that everything else in the world stops moving until I get a green connection back.
*Windows firewall is disabled and I'm on a netgear router that was purchased 2 years ago.

Thank you for any assistance or advice you can provide. =)

An additional observation: I play FFXIV with my siblings and we've noticed that if one person is R0'ing, at times the other computers are not lagged out. I also observe this sometimes when dual boxing... One computer will be R0'd while the other is green.

We still alternate getting R0's but maybe this pattern may help point to the root of the problem.

I am experiencing the same issue.... But I also regularly get a 30002 error after going r0. It's getting to the point that I am unable to play the game! This has only started happening after patch 1.19!

I'm having the exact same issue. I also have Cox Communication as my cable provider. It seems like it may be a problem on their end.

I have the same issue, CenturyLink is my provider. FFXIV is the only thing that does this.

    Followup:

Hey everyone. I haven't gotten a response back from the support team but I did try troubleshooting the problem myself with various methods to some success. I disconnected my computer from the router and directly plugged it into the cable modem box to try and see if it was the router causing me problems. I only played for an hour or two on FFXIV but noticed that the R0's had stopped.

Since then, I reset the router back to factory defaults and have been testing FFXIV with multiple pc's logged on again to see if I could recreate the lag spikes/R0's. So far it hasn't had another R0 hiccup, though there have been some lag spikes while playing (nothing out of what I'd expect though as far as normal server lag goes).

So if any of you guys are having similar problems to what I described in the original post, try directly plugging your PC to the cable modem box itself to see if it could possibly be the router causing hiccups. If you notice the R0'ing stop, you might have to reset the router to factory settings (via a little button on the back side) or you may have to purchase a new router altogether.

If I get more R0 spikes later my next step will be to replace my router with a brand new one. Good luck!

Argh, the R0's did infact return... albeit, not as frequently or for as long as before.

Looking into purchasing a new router. Will update with my results when this happens.
