I believe at no point did the launcher update while messing with the boot.cfg. I even went as far as to modify the main boot folder along with the boot.cfg and it updated the client before the login prompt but not even that worked, same damn error. I tried everything besides reinstalling the game and Windows. Apparently this problem has been happening for several years now.

I'm now reinstalling the game and it's downloading the game right now... crossing my fingers it works. Not a single soul on the internet said that worked for them. I hope it's as simple as that though..

I had the same issue and the above suggested solutions did not work for me. I found a post from an old patch where people experienced same issues, and there it was suggested to use a vpn (change your ip adress). Although it seemed a weird enough approach, i can confirm using a vpn solved the issue for me.
