MAKE SURE THE LAUNCHER IS CLOSED WHEN YOU DO THIS:

Go to Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn\ open up FFXIV_BOOT.cfg in word pad or notepad.

you should see this

the line in bold is the key change the 0 to a 1 and it forces it to check version upon opening the launcher.

Save the file.

Restart the launcher.

Now, my problem is that the download speed is WAY below 100KB/s (between 40 and 20). Oddly enough this is only happening with the FFXIV launcher. Everything else has my speed capping. And no, I'm not downloading anything else whilst I try to update FFXIV. I had to check, though. Already tried this trick above (which is also mentioned on the first page, champs) and still nothing. Was also getting an error, btw, but seemed to have been solved by itself after rebooting the launcher a few times.

haven't been playing for like two days, waiting for the patch. Now I have this issue too.
I had it before and the FFXIV_BOOT line editting worked back then, it's not working anymore.

I got the error aswell and tried to change the "BootVersionCheckMode" value to no avail. Then I noticed while opening the launcher it would skip the version check and update the boot.cfg with "BootVersionCheckMode" back to 0. I closed the launcher, changed it back to "BootVersionCheckMode 1", saved the file and put it as "read-only". Next time I opened the launcher it would perform the version check and I could download the patch.

Does your ISP throttle p2p connections? It may be flagging the client as a torrent so this happens. Using a VPN usually bypasses this.

I have no idea, but this isn't the first time I download a patch for FFXIV. The other times it all worked out alright. The speed was as it's supposed to be. Right now I got the error again, though. Something about the launcher not being able to download patch files? I rarely have problems downloading torrents, btw. If a certain torrent is with a very low download speed, I know I can blame it on the seeds. Usually, healthy torrents download just fine for me.

Sure! It seems quite random, though, so I'll make another comment with the SS should it happen again. Just started to update again, so it could either take a while or happen right after I post this reply.

Their patch server is being hammered by thousands of downloads today and i bet there's many returning players among them. Busy day. Anyway, post a screenshot if anything happens again.

I used CCLeaner to perform a full clean up in my internet files and it seems to have worked. It's downloading the patch right now, at least.
