On the ending of the triad...

I really didn't like how that ended.

"Hey guys I'm working for an ascian"
"Oh okay, welcome to the scions"

How does that make any sense?

Because this site hates having spoiler text only and no actual text....

He specifically mentions Elidibus, who has an agenda that is not like the ones from Lahabrea and the others. The Warriors of Darkness in the last patch also revealed why they worked with Elidibus, though they were kinda misguided thinking killing the WOL would solve the problem. Remember, the other Ascians taught beastmen how to summon primals and that is a big source of conflict. Little best Ascian (cause F trying to spell his name) wants to STOP the primals from wrecking the world and he doesn't want people to use them for power as the people of his world had done before. Things aren't as black and white as they used to be. If what the kid was doing was going to be against Elidibus' plan, then he would have been snuffed out, no?

So, here's my input on the end of the MSQ
Something that bothers me is a difference that I saw between the 1.0 summoning of the seal, and the 3.5 summoning. In 1.0, the Warrior of Light had to go around Eorzea to offer prayers to the Twelve, beseeching their aid in containing Bahamut. Papalymo didn't get us to do that (We didn't have the time to do it anyways), so maybe he wasn't actually summoning the Twelve, or even their power.
Maybe the appearance of the spell was simply mimicking Louisoix's spell, or something along those lines.
And, I mean, the primal was just forming. If that's the case, tying everything together, a just forming primal will need a weaker sealing spell to contain it. That leads to less aether being used to cast it, so... Potential survival(?).

I personally do hope that Papalymo managed to survive, since he is my little buddy. I know there's still that chance he might be gone, but until I see a body, or some other proof of death, I refuse to believe it. I mean, everyone else that's died, we've seen them die.

    The Warring Triad:

Regula showing concern not only for his own men but sacrificing his life to protect the Scions' little friend was a touching and tragic moment. Him backing down and making destroying Zurvan his priority rather than securing Allagan technology for the sake of securing it is also very compelling. Not entirely unexpected either - I've long since speculated that there's much more to Garlemald than 'generic evil empire' no matter how much certain people believe it to be otherwise. Between the lore book confirming as such as the events of 3.5 I think we can safely suggest that once we tackle the 'rot' in Garlemald we may very well end up forging a direct alliance/peaceful relations.

Varis was explicitly stated to have defended Regula against those who spoke out against him. It'll be interesting to see how he reacts to his best friend being killed, especially given the circumstances of his demise. This also opens up the possibility that we may work with him directly in the future, especially if his son turns against him or does something very stupid that results in even Varis turning his back upon Zenos.

As for the revelations regarding the Void and such, that's pretty interesting too. Especially since it seems like our little firned may stick around for future plot points. Him having sworn loyalty to Elidibus may put us at odds in the future though...but I suspect eventually we'll see the Scions/Warrior of Light forced to accept that they need to embrace both Light and Darkness to maintain balance.

It always did seem like Regula had more respect for his men than say nael or even gaius. It's a shame he couldn't return and become a reoccurring character in another expac or something.

So a thought occurs, given what we've gotten in 3.5 already, and can expect to come in 3.55. Figured this was the best place to jot down my thoughts.

We know that 3.55 will deal with Nero and the Omega Weapon to whatever extent. We also know that the Omega Weapon, based upon its Raid Title, has something to do with Time. In 3.5, we witnessed Papalymo apparently give his life to seal away the Primal Rhalgr that Ilberd summoned, an act which left Yda stricken with grief. In the 3.5 Patch Trailer, we see Yda in what looks to be some kind of control room related to Omega, pound a button which likely serves to trigger some kind of mechanism. So I'm thinking what if Nero is going to use Yda's grief to manipulate her into helping him activate Omega for his own ends, whatever they may be? Tempting her with the prospect of undoing Papalymo's death?

I have a feeling Papalymo will in fact still be alive because, as the rule states, if there is no body he ain't dead. Regardless of this however its almost certain that his spell will be revealed to have a VERY short timer...and even worse those reinforcements that Ilberd had called in to unknowingly help summon the primal are probably the same ones going after Omega in the trailer. Most likely not only will Nero be the one to suggest using Omega, but the reason the GC Alliance will go with it is to keep the primal out of Garlean hands. Yda pushing that button is probably her atleast trying to keep Papalymo's (supposed) sacrifice from being in vain. How well this works out, well, we'll have to wait and see.

Oh also, you are now thinking about Lahabrea hijacking the primal summoning somehow because of the eyes being used. Which could also mean he will hijack Omega.

I'll admit to being in the minority when it came to thinking Regula would die as I thought he would live, so hey I was wrong. That said I could see Varis allowing experimental procedures be used on Regula in an attempt to bring him back, OR if he actually isn't dead but is near it (clinically dead or whatever) it would achieve the same thing. This could lead to further Kefka parallels as the returned/reborn Regula would be driven isane by the results...but this currently is idle speculation on my part.

As for our good friend Unukalhai color me surprised on him staying, though I gladly enjoy it! This does make me think that the WT will indeed be required for completion in order to move on to Stormblood alongside Regula's death. Also he for sure will end up allying with us in the end when it comes down to us vs Elidibus, though it wouldn't surprise me if it takes some time for him to decide where his own path will go. This could also help flesh out Elidibus's character more depending on how he views Unukalhai, as an asset or someone he actually cares for.

    Warring Triad :

Sadly we saw Regula dead. And that make me so crazy. At last, they make a really good time between him and Scions, showing how careful he can be. He said he could die as much as he can for his country and friend. Even if I liked all, I found his death so unfair, like a lot of things in this game. We are watching like idiots, why the Warrior of Light couldn't help ? For all we have done in this story already, I would imagine, the WoL is powerful yet his/her reactions in stories, make me yawn sometime.
I can't relax and say it's a good end for him. Even if it's a good end at some point, showing how he can be powerful, careful, amazing and able to talk with us... It's not enough. I was waiting for a lot more.
But for me, the end of the Warring Triad story was too neglected.

They are erasing people and content they don't need anymore for the next expension. Without think that we wanted more for some of them. I can't hide my disappointment.

Welp, there's yet another sacrifice for the books. I'm really hoping that someday, someone remembers that you can be 'willing to die for the cause' without needing to put your money where your mouth is.

At least with Regula, it wasn't just a set-up to inspire Unukalhai to also sacrifice himself. And everyone stayed believably in-character. AND it didn't openly contradict any facts from previous installments. It's roughly the second anniversary of that, and no, I'm never going to be over it so long as it goes eternally unmentioned. Still no TT card for a certain someone, and at this point I'm ready to cry conspiracy.

But on that note, the 'side characters can't possibly join the Scions' non-rule has been officially debunked. Not saying it necessarily means anything for anyone else, just that it no longer counts as a valid argument going forward. But if they were, strictly hypothetically, to allow that sort of thing for any other character from past side stories, we all know who it would be, and I have mountains of supporting evidence that could come into play in part or in whole. Ahem.

VERY GLAD WE GOT TO KEEP HIM. Hopefully Cyril gets the good news and comes back soon.

    Main Scenario

Can enough be enough already? I started in Gridania in 1.0, so the Yda and Pap show is kind of my everything. Granted, I did predict, a LONG time ago, that if any one of the starter Scions would get the axe, it would be Papalymo as a catalyst for Yda's development. Still...

I did appreciate getting the option to say no. It's about freaking time.

Can I just say, I started playing FFVI again for the first time in however many ages, and I was really caught off guard by the scene where General Leo tells a faceless Imperial soldier that his life matters. Maybe it's just that XIV and XV are just so godsdamned hung up on the "willingness to die" with very little room left for counter-argument, that a series entry that concerns itself with the "will to live" has so much more impact on me these days.
