Louisoix's spell on Bahamut didn't succeed and caused a huge amount of aether in the air which he absorbed into himself to become primal. Papalymo's spell worked and assuming that the spell can cost the caster's all aetheric reserve, it's unlikely he survived.

It makes me wonder why Louisoix still had enough power to cast powerful speel that sent WoL through time and space after that. Maybe he used the same aether residue...
