i'll just say though i think the main reason why they keep tanks and healers gear shared is that it is to avoid progression nightmares in savage raids since some tanks and healers switch between main and secondary tanking/healing roles and some also switch jobs for certain floors like in my former group our MT is PLD for A9s and A10s but switches to DRK for the A11s and A12s.

Yes, yes. Melee DPS also have such features. Monk can be usefull in the fights with strong HPS check (mantra), Ninja+Dragoon can be used, where need a good common DPS. That is why melee-DPS players must have an opportunity to switch between classes like tanks and healers do
