So why did they choose to take the game down on a holiday? (USA)

Really surprised me that with so many people off today. That a choice to take the game down all day today happened.

While I know this is only in USA and not the rest of the world. I just wonder if this happens a lot from past patch launches.

It was just by chance. Patch maintenance is always the Monday before reset, and this time it just happened to fall on a US holiday. I wouldn't be surprised if previous patches fell on national holidays of other countries at times.

Well a 24hr maintenance is always a monday and maintenance are tuesday they dont really look at holidays especially not for america/eu etc.

It is a federal holiday. I assure you there are a lot more people off than just high school students. :P That said, it is only a holiday in the US and not warranting postponing maintenance.

Ok, so that's a thing in the USA.

I'm guessing the fact that this is a local non-Japanese holiday explains why a Japanese company does not take it into consideration in their maintenance schedule.

It's true but, as an adult, I sympathize with him/her. It must kind of suck to have a day off from school but can't play your game.
