Allow me to answer this from the perspective of one of her own:

Quick, what's the first thing you see when you spot a character? Yeah, you're not going to spot anything you asked about before looking at what they're wearing. Also doesn't help either that miqo'te is still the most played race on practically any server and au'ra females use pretty much the exact same frame as the miqo'te female model.

Another thing that doesn't help either is that there are only so many hairstyles, facial features and so on and only a handful of ones that people prefer, so there's bound some duplicates in terms of style, further amplified by the sheer number of cat girls and the au'ra that almost look like them.

The last thing that would provide this perspective is that usually in MMORPGs with multiple race options, players are more inclined to see differences among characters of the same race like everything you listed. An miqo'te player is more inclined to spot finer differences among other miqo'te, whereas everyone else just sees catgirl #8172 and normally wouldn't spot those finer differences unless they actually took time to focus on those differences.

I spent lots of time creating my character and name and glam all my jobs. I change outfits fairly frequent also, lol
End of the day people do with what they feel happy with, some even make multiple alts, etc..

If you're not going to try and see the finer details then why makes such an uninformed boisterous claim that "They all look the same."? Attempt to justify it but all you're saying is "You all look the same from a distance and we're not really bothered enough to get a closer look. So we're sticking with we said before." Just shows you wanted to follow through with an initial biased opinion rather than consider what you just thought about in any sense.

As far as your glamour, I'm casting a dismissive glare. Same color on everything, oversaturation.
Cool, that's exactly what I was going for with this one random set.

The other girl was abruptly criticised for having highlights which matched her dress (who cares?) then also for gloves which didn't match it, despite making a cute combo akin to something you might see in a crazy kung fu film.

Your pride and joy set has to be mismatched because the main component isn't part of a set and you understandably want to show it off given its rarity, but it's not to my taste at all and playing a maximum height elezen if I dressed that way I would look like I was on my way to audition for the circus, which is certainly a valid aesthetic choice but not one I enjoy making. We have all been through having mismatched gorgeous items we have to wrangle into a coherent set before. It doesn't make taking the easy route to rock a particular style bad.

I play a male Roegadyn right now, but when I was a female Au Ra, I used the Thavnairian set simply because I liked it. I didn't run into anyone that looked exactly like me despite me using a very common glamour choice. I was able to design my Au Ra to look more unique, I daresay more so than my male Roegadyn which is a far less played race. To put it simply, you need to try harder. If you go for that generic look, you will look generic, but if you take the time to think outside the box, you WILL be able to get something more unique.

As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.

That new glamour top Wool Suspenders is hideous, so won't be wearing that.

No one in this thread has been able answer this one question - why? Why should people attempt to look different? To appease the hipsters who think, both here and irl, that by looking different you somehow are different, for example more creative? To appease the fashion police who think that only uniqueness counts as beautiful? It is just asserted at the beginning of the thread that looking like other people is not optimal, and there has been no attempt to explain why.

I disagree on a fundamental level that there is any need to look different from others. Of course people can look different, but to insinuate that it makes a difference is just boosting one's ego.

I don't have to "try harder" to find something "unique". Why? Because I don't give a flying fart in space if what I pick is unique. What I do care about is if my outfit is aesthetically pleasing to me. Anyone else's opinion on the matter is irrelevant. A "unique" outfit that makes me cringe when I look at my character is not an option just because it's "unique".

EDIT: OH LOOK! THOSE NEW SUSPENDERS ARE SO UNIQUE! OH WAIT NO THEY AREN'T. THEY ARE YET ANOTHER PSEUDO-DRESS! INTO THE BURN BIN WITH THEM!

I think that line of thought is fair, your posts at least explain why you dislike a lot of what's available due to multiple criteria. Maybe it's a racial difference, I think Lalafell look good in most things, either because it's cute, or spunky, or some other reason. That's probably personal bias.

I get the feeling you were looking to be offended, even when I wrote, "I'm not trying to be rude". The person I was talking to wasn't even offended. I explained a rational point, about wearing common gear, all/mostly-all dyed one-color, and how it wasn't anything unusual. I had previously volunteered my own glamour and thought process behind it, which differs from the people described in the thread topic. Remember the thread topic? About people wearing similar gear? That's what we were talking about. To bring THE TOPIC up in THE THREAD is not somehow out of line, using an example is not out of line.

There is no nothing gained from this attempt at discussion. "Hey, why do people wear the same thing." "Because they wear what they like." That's the core of your initial attempt at a discussion. Underlying that is a very passive jab at people who's tastes obviously differ from yours.

In your OP you claim all you see are generic miqo and aura wearing the coat or the thavnarian set. This immediately is you shutting down them all because of heavy biased on a very apparent and popular image. What facial options did they have? Make-up or tattoos? Hairstyle? Colors? Accessories? What particular shows are they wearing that compliment or set them apart?

You see the coat or the thavnarian top and you jump straight to "Hey they are all the same, completely cookie cutter, no individuality or creativity." Except most of the significant creativity comes in the small and subtle differences each of them have while still wearing what they enjoy.

All you boast about is how different you are and your different outfits that are different. While you have not so openly shamed anyone for not being different it's all in how you present your words rather than the words themselves, and you are so very clearly undermining people who are not "on your creative level".
Are you talking to me?? Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I'm getting the sense that you're assuming I created the topic (blending parts of the topic with parts of my posts as if they were the same person), I did not. It looks like you assume I started the topic, which is kind of funny because you go on a tirade about not paying attention to details.

"Who cares?" I was responding to the topic using an example. I only talked about the gloves because you brought it up.

I can only assume, when you talk about my glamour, that the "main component" is the coat (the following will go off of this assumption). It is, in fact, part of a set (I don't have the crown that is part of the set, that's top 10 on data center only, the headgear in the photo was from the set I was using at the time, I just didn't take it off when I snapped the picture).

If you don't like my glamour, that's fine because I think I look like an adorable Prince of Persia. It fits my personal standards (outlined) for glamour, and accentuates my eyes/hair/hairband.

Edit: Adding the glamour to contrast with the original set, and a clarification after re-reading my post (about my headgear in the first photo).

Paradoxically if nobody wore popular or matched glamours then the fashion police in this thread would have nobody to feel superior to, and their stylistic achievements would ring hollow.
