That could also happen. But I am pretty sure he will try.
Well IF the Griffin turns out to be Ilberd. And if we can prove his involvement in Wilred's death.I get the impression that the resistance is a patchwork of groups in the first place. The Griffin has been trying to unify them a lot, even including the Corpse Brigade, but I still think there are quite a few pre existing elements within the resistance.
If the Griffin does turn out to be Ilberd I think his involvement in Wilred's death will poison opinion of him among many in Little Ala Mhigo.

Honestly, unless the Griffin is entirely new character, I think its extremely likely its Ilberd. Ilberd is an experienced leader with the right mix of desperation and short sightedness that when combined with the support of Ascians fits the bill.
As for proof, the guys of Little Ala Mhigo know about Wilred's death and all current evidence seems to point to his death being due to finding out something about the corruption in the Crystal Braves before they turned on us. With Ilberd literally being in charge of that rebellion it puts him as a major suspect which frankly might be enough to erode trust. The Griffin is allied with the Corpse Brigade which already has quite a few older Ala Mhigian's disapproving. Even ignoring their involvement in with the King of Ruin, their actions since have been terrible. One of the NPCs when you first visit Little Ala Mhigo makes comments that suggest she was captured and raped by members of the Corpse Brigade recently.
The thing that seems to match both the Griffin and Ilberd is both are so desperate and so focused on actually retaking Ala Mhigo they aren't thinking of the consequences.
I was surprised too but I am guessing they just want to avoid a 'return of the king' scenario. That and not wanting to bloat the roster too much. To be honest, the old monarchy was so hated there is a good chance a lot of Ala Mhigans would be unwilling to follow Widargelt if they new the truth. I suppose it depends on how the MNK story plays out in Stormblood. At the very least I hope we see him and the other new Fists of Rhalgr make a cameo at least in the spirit of Y'mhitra or the Senna siblings.Yeah, he said that, I recall the interview as well (it was indeed an interview, not Q&A). I also recall being seriously weirded out by that answer, because c'mon - Widargelt is so heavily tied to Ala Mhigo and its immediate pre-Imperial past that not including him in a story about its liberation would seem like a massive over-sight, especially since the recently-released lore book goes out of its way to further solidify and clarify that connection. I wondering of Yoshida wasn't just being coy.

I agree that it is highly doubtful for Widargelt to have such a event in 4.0 but still it would be a waste for him not to take part in 4.0 MSQ even for a small moment such as a cameo scene on the battlefield fighting to liberate Ala Mhigo or appearing infront of the WoL, and maybe with the two sisters based on if players complete 3.0 MNK Job story or not, for a small moment to give the WoL time to complete his or her mission.
As of now it seems Widargelt only interests is to free Ala Mhigo and rebuild the Monk Order. He is most likely going to let Ala Mhigo change into a new system, most likely one where he is not needed, consider how bad the old system was and for the developers means, and lore reason, to keep Widargelt as a continue character in the Monk Job Storyline instead of removing him like they did with Estinien for Dragoon Job Storyline.

I honestly can see this dialog happening...
Almost seems to me that we'll get no more monarchy in any city-state of Eorzea, since Nanamo herself wants to change Ul'dah into republic and Ishgard is the closest there is to republic government.Hm? Why don't I join in the movement, you ask? I may have the blood of royals, but with everything my father had done, the people will not welcome another monarch. I think it's best for me to do my part with rebuilding the Fist of Rhalgr. -Widargelt

They can still reintroduce Widargelt into the MSQ, Estinien didn't come back until 2.5 too.
I like helping people with their Job ideas, it's fun to help them visuallize and create the job they'd like to play most. Plus I make my own too, I'll post them eventually.
I wouldn't be surprised if he showed up at some point during 4.0. The fact that he was stated to have royal blood in the lore book suggests that he is likely to play into it somehow. He did, however, try to kill the Warrior of Light before being beaten back and recognising that blind vengeance doesn't accomplish much at all. So he isn't likely to see eye to eye with someone like Ilberd.
Given how much of Ala Mhigo's trouble is directly tied to the Monk's order and royalty, however, I'm crossing my fingers that he isn't well received for the added tension it would bring.

I think Widargelt's focus will be on rebuilding the Fists of Rhalgr. I very much suspect that the MNK job stories will be focused on that, perhaps trying to reclaim one of the old temples. I am actually very curious if Eric will turn up because he sounds like a character that is much more likely to exist in the middleground between holding Ala Mhigan heritage and embracing the beneficial aspects of what the Garleans brought. After all Eric is from Ala Mhigo and his family lives there if I remember right. Its sounds like he is part of the educated tier of current Ala Mhigan society. I don't think he is necessarily a diehard Garlean supporter but I can see him being more unbias in his assessment than many of the players who are likely to be involved even if he is a complete condescending jackass.
I agree that Widargelt of today probably wouldn't see eye to eye with Ilberd. The lesson he learned from Eric is that creating does more to secure the future than destroying. That is why Widargelt switched his focus from reclaiming Ala Mhigo at all costs to rebuilding the Fists of Rhalgr.

No spoilers please, but would someone mind saying if Widargelt does show up in 3.5? I'd like to know so I can decide if I want to finish leveling mnk before doing the MSQ.
