    General 8v8 Feast strats

Hi, I just started running Feast 8v8 (unranked) this week and am enjoying it immensely! I play bard and usually hang out in back of group and attack whomever got marked <1>. Usually that's a healer which makes sense to pick off but there are some really good healers out there (or poor dps on my part) and the target will...just...not...die. Isn't it a better strategy to mark "squishy" targets like dps while tanks handle the healers? I seem to see more wins when I'm focusing other dps it seems. Also, how can I help the tanks/heals on my team more? I use WP almost on cooldown on healers to hopefully prevent CC on them.
tl;dr what is common strategy for winning Feast 8v8 (unranked)

Just found this question on Reddit. Got some good info https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...eo&sh=0f3f5a61

I'm a bit of a blitzy MCH. I play a ranged job, but often close the gap on targets. This is to make it more difficult fof them to try and either los me or run away and get healed. I do it because I'm fairly confident in my ability, but I am WELL aware of the risks in doing it. If you fight at max range all the time, be aware that you can do nothing to stop a target from taking one or two steps back and suddenly being untargetable, thus capable of getting healed before say, a finishing blow can be delivered.

I often see the flow of battle play out on one of either teams' bridges, and that's frustrating to me. Tanks and melees are free to push forward and harrass/kill, with an escape route through their ranged and healers pretty much assured. Don't let this happen. If they come in, shut them down and do everything to stop them from escaping. Where that fails, or where heals/ranged go unchecked across the bridge, jump over the fences on either side, or take the stairs on either side of your team's starting area and flank the enemy. This forces their attention off the bridge choke point and either to the sides, or better yet, behind them, where healers or targets carrying more medals are likely to stage themselves.

Make full use of the arena. Lure overfocused melees to los their healer then burst them down. Lure a potential kill target to the side of the upper area then use a knockback to send them off and control their routes back up into range/sight of their healer. Throw out a few aoes to stop targets grouping (or if you have a SMN force them TO group). Bind/heavy targets trying to escape either where they're out of sight of their healer or wide open for attacks besides. There's so much more to that arena than the bridges and the middle.

If you attack from maximum range you'll not deal much damage and will not kill anyone. Go to Wolfs Den Pier and check on training dummy how much damage you do from close and maximum range and where penalty starts (15y). Apply both dots from afar then come close for a burst.

Thank you both for the answers. I didn't know about the range issue but that makes sense. A few times, I would be attacking and the HP gauge just wasn't going down as fast as it was earlier. I honestly thought they were using some defensive buff that made me hit like a wet noodle.

The "go around the back and flank 'em" trick worked!

Been working longer than we've all been alive. Basic battlefield awareness and tactics. When the enemy's in front, most won't look to the sides or behind. Keep up the good work

From a healer, note that the side blitz strat also means you could get caught out and not be in our line of site to save you. Be careful.

Ah! Thank you for noting that! It's important to know there is a risk in doing it (and no strat is 100% guaranteed to work everytime). Often times, I have my entry and escape routes pre-planned, and when I have a friend healing and we're in a voice chat together, I'll let her know, and she slips me a regen/balance/bole.

With that chat restriction happening soon, and because not everyone has/uses voice chat, it would be wise to come up with some kind of signal to your team that you're going to attempt something like that.

I am very nervous about the new chat restrictions. Not that I've noticed a lot of chat in my matches, but I do learn things when ppl do talk. I play on PS and crossbar space is limited already. Not sure where I'll put the new chat stuff.
