Request to unlock Hempen set styles

Why does almost every thread asking for something to be unlocked end up in arguements?
I mean- I get it with certain posts. Like this one thread asked for the male's valentines outfit to be unlocked for females. ( http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...entines-outfit )

It doesn't work like that in the game, it's different to RL where you don't have to see them, and if you see one, you won't most likely see one in years.
Here it would be daily, and I don't want my eyes to get cancer from seeing it, and I bet there are others who are just like me, so that's why I'm against it.

You all can play princesses and whatever you like in RL all I care, and maybe SE should get you your own special server where you can have your wedding dresses and tiaras so you can compete who looks cutest all around Eorzea.

Have you considered that if you're so upset to the point of thinking pixels on a screen can give you a dangerous and debilitating physical illness, perhaps an MMO populated by all different kinds of people from all different countries isn't the right genre for you? And I note that you're still relentlessly pushing the (rude) RL angle despite its complete irrelevance.

If someone requests a gender-based garment unlock in a thread specifically about unlocking garments, and I say the exact same thing as them with the genders reversed, I think it's wholly unreasonable to freak out at my request ruining the entire game for you. In your case you also (when pushed) condemned the original request, which is at least internally consistent even if I think it's silly. The other poster is not nearly so consistent in his condemnation.

By all means, the WHM AF or Healer Robe from Void Ark are most certainly not the manliest attires you can think of, but it is still lightyears away from the wedding gown.
But hey, if you insist that its basically the same and you already have numerous choices, then you should be fine without it.

I also noticed that I misunderstood your original statement when you said "then females shouldnt get the tailcoat". I misread it as if you meant it already IS unlocked
and hence figured you were referring to a different set. So my bad on this one,but still doesnt change the actual discussion IMO.
Yes I am quite consistent, and while I not necessarily endorse the tailcoat for females it wouldnt be as bad as seeing male characters in a wedding gown to me (id never use it though).
So if you tell me you want equal treatment in this matter, meaning no tailcoats for female characters unless men get the wedding gowns, then by all means, I am
against gender-unlocking any of them.

I wouldnt be against it if it was a neutral piece of clothing that is only unlocked to females or vice-versa...but wedding gowns certainly arent neutral.
But as I already stated before,
I wish every set had different models for fem/male characters, trying to be less neutral and instead catering to the designated gender more.
It's lazy how 99% are practically identic on both genders which is most likely the most probable reason why you have your "numerous gowns" looking the way they do.
The looking good in it part is a matter of taste. I'm sure you can tell it isnt my cup of tea.

On this subject, I just wanna mention again that I have talked to a bunch of my male friends in the game and that most of them
pointed out on their own how they dislike that many gear sets seem like they were designed for females and that they also feel like they have less choices than females,
because (1) less sets in general and (2) a good bunch of them being too girly. So while it may be pleasing for a certain minority to have girly looking gear available,
I'm willing to bet that it is not the case for the majority. So basically I am all for more choices (=less race-locks) but want them more catered towards the designated gender.

And I can agree with this, guys should have the same amounts of sets available, but not at the expense of gender-unlocking everything but rather in terms of
having an equal amount of sets available that are specifically catered to male characters.

If by that you mean you would like more male only sets that look like modern western male clothing then please, no. It is incredibly restricted. Pants, shirt, t.shirt, jacket, shorts. Oh boy I'm sure going to have fun dressing up my male alts from that selection!
Removing gender locks on items would allow people to be more creative with glamours, would give a ton of fun options for RP and really isn't going to hurt anyone.

Thank you; yes, while I still disagree with some parts I can accept your argument much more readily when presented the way you did in the more recent post.

The issue with getting the opinions of a handful of guys is that they're just a handful of guys. I completely agree with them that we could use more variety in designs in general (and I'm sure lots of players with female characters would agree too) - there are only so many undyeable white robes my wardrobe can hold as a healer, and I'm someone whose character looks pretty good in them; burly 'tough guy' characters are probably reaching for their glamour prisms much faster! But as Lukha and others have mentioned before, (straight) guys aren't the only people playing male characters and Square-Enix would do well to bear that in mind. There should be gear that suits players who like to dress their characters to look beautiful, and gear that suits those who prefer a more rugged look, especially when there's so much physical divergence between male characters depending on the race and design. Female characters have both types of clothing in abundance.

The (stupid) double standard we have had historically where new gear comes in cute female-only and then more masculine unisex variations needs to stop, forever. That's why I reacted to the tailcoat post, because taken on its own it could be read as a request for more of that nonsense which is something I absolutely cannot agree with. I don't want S-E to get the message that it's a fair way to design gear. They've been doing well recently, giving the male Songbird outfit as much attention as the female version instead of just reskinning another coatee for the guys.

The solution, though, is as summed up neatly by Laerune here. I happen to like both androgynous and traditionally gendered looks equally so I'm genuinely satisfied with either outcome; if they're struggling to cope with designing a fair number of high quality sets for everyone - as we have seen far too much in the past - then modifying female-only designs for men suits me just fine. It's long been established as the Eorzean aesthetic at this point and many male characters are physically beautiful because it's a Final Fantasy game. It doesn't remove the existing masculine options from the game and gives everyone more items to choose from (even if a very traditionally masculine character might not want to be seen dead in, say, fishnet stockings, he might enjoy the cuffs as part of a completely different glamour idea).

But I don't want to see the success of this thread leading to unlocked hempen underwear for everyone (yay!)... then another entry into the list of female-only/unisex outfits when the tailcoat set is unlocked. If girls want to keep the wedding dress exclusively for themselves, guys should keep their tailcoat.

You have some serious RL issues, so can you please keep your bigotry out of the game? There is zero reason to get so upset over what other people do with their in-game pixels.
