    Breaking into 4* crafting

I'm a solid 3* crafter in 5 crafts and looking at my first 4* synths.

    Stats: Crafts: 1004, Control: 947, CP 422.

Only one meld on the offhands (and I can afford to blow materia up), Neck and wrist still iL170. Everything else is Ironworks and/or pentamelded. No specialists yet.

Should I pick up specialist's souls? Finish pentamelding the offhands?

And can someone please explain the whys of Rath's rotation? I really don't get the MM - FL synergy at all.

    Logging as GSM. sugestions welcome.

With food, your stats are good enough for 4* so you could go ahead and give it a shot. If you’re already experienced with 3*, you’ll be fine with 4*. I find that they’re a bit easier than 3* at min requirements.

Neither the specialist soul nor additional melds are essential but both will help. The specialist soul will give you an automatic upgrade of +20 craftsmanship and +20 control.

Getting more cp is useful, but in most cases 472 cp with food is enough. I rarely use a full 480 cp and will on occasion use more than 472. Additional control is also useful if you’re crafting from all NQ and want to maximize your HQ yield but it really isn’t a world of a difference.

    Maker’s Mark serves 3 purposes.

    1) It is a method of completing a large portion of the required progress
    2) You do not lose any durability
    3) Most importantly, each flawless synthesis can be used to bait for good procs.

The main advantage of maker's mark is cp recovery. There's no need to stress over too many missed FS as you can easily compensate by using an extra progress step (BS, SS, CS2, even RS). Meanwhile, you've probably accumulated quite a bit of extra cp, which should more than make up for that lost durability.

So blew up a few gV control materia before blowing up some gIV CP ones, and got some souls Current stats:

    Cra 1024, Con 974, 426 CPs.

Baked onion soup HQ is 48 CPs = 474 CPs. You have mentioned 480. Different food? Did I miss a CP meld somewhere?

oh... I bet its I still have 2 astral birch accessories. That is 4 more CPs....

**** it, looking up rath's rotation and giving it a shot.

    Thanks

The current maximum CP you can have on gear is 430. And Seafood Stew HQ gives 50 CP on top of that.
