the market is a backwards auction, undercutting is just the way the market works here in FF14. i would prefer another system myself, because gathering materials, crafting the item and then playing the market game is a bit much for the seller, while the buyer just click one time on the cheapest item.

but however, i have only 2 retainers. that's only 40 items i can list on the market. the faster i can sell an item, the faster i can free one item slot and can list a new item and sell it, so undercutting leads to a higher profit in the end.

The market in this game is completely awful. Not a single good thing can be said about it. Undercutting is one thing, but there is also the people who increase the amount an item is worth by leaps and bounds. I've seen here on Jenova, old ARR primal crafting mats go for millions, and even in some cases almost as high as the items they're crafted into. There is even the case here where two players have gone on record and said their only goal in the game is to have complete control of the market and max Gil. At one point one of those players bought ALL 250 gear on the board, sold it for much higher, went to the crafters and mocked them with a custom emote throwing Gil at them.

Player to player sales are also ridiculous here and subjected to undercutting. Really anything that allows for a free market in video games is going to be more abused then anything, without having a structured market nothing will however change and everything will continue the way it has.

Market under cutting was the original pvp in xiv.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the tiny-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will allow it to pass through me and over me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

The prices fluctuate crazy on my server. They dip down from 100k-50k and back up again in a week or 2 weeks time.
I've just gotten used to it and I can wait people out

Lol and even that's an understatement some days. Course there's always profit to be made

Same thing happens in Odin pretty often.

The perceived problem I have seen is the fact that some people seem to undercut irrationally, and a lot of people tend to follow up with lowest offer. There have been cases where an item has been selling for a steady price X, but suddenly people just get super impatient (or just don't care?) and undercut everyone else by a huge margin. If other people undercut the said person, the item may get completely devalued for a long period of time.

But then again, I think this is the nature of Market Board. It is always fickle and sometimes even irrational. If something gets undercut way too much, I might just save up the items and sell them at a better time anyways.

I am annoyed by people who undercut 200k each time and they do that multiple times a day.

Eh to me -1 isn't enough also due to different areas. If I am in Gridania, paying 800k is the better move vs the 799,999 from Limsa or another location due to tax which would put me at about 820k or so. I would actually like to go back to the blind auction of 11, just bid what you feel it should be and if anyone has it marked for that price, you get it. Least to me it seemed items sold more regularly at the same price. When it comes to pricing though, I am not one for shoving the market up to an insane amount. I got a Night Pegasus whistle and saw they all had sold for about 20-22mil, the only one available was set for 40, so....yeah, I undercut by 20mil.

I don't know why people do the -1 gil thing.. It just seems so.. pointless to me. If something is selling for 18,000. I'mma put mine up for 18,000. People always buy it.

I also never sell in stupid 99 stacks. Soooo annoying.

Prices are hiiigh in Gilgamesh. You can make a TON of money just selling GC mats: Dubbin, Borax, Raziqsand and Scheelite for example.

I recently sold 11 Woolen Chausses(lv46 or something) for 77k each. I was a happy lady.
