Anyone having connection isssues as of late? (Also connection issues give penilty?)

My internet works fine, even coming on these forums. So I really do not understand why the game only is having issues. This started since SE claimed "select ISPs have trouble connecting to the game" If it is our ISPs why does everything else work?

Also I disagree with connection issues giving a penalty on the duty finder. I hit ok for the single time it appeared so I am not sure how it works I get a penalty

From a technical standpoint, as a network administrator, you can't always say, "Well everything else works, so this should too." There are a myriad of reasons why something like this might happen from where you are located in the network in relation to the game servers, how your traffic to and from the game is routed between destinations and so many other things it's impossible to name them all. While the forums are also hosted by SE, they are most definitely NOT hosted on the same servers as the game, so your connection path to them will be different. Also, connecting to a website is a lot less resource intensive and sensitive to minor connection fluctuations as the game is, a website is much more forgiving.

As for the penalty... Well, the server doesn't have a way of knowing you hit 'Commence' before you got disconnected. All it know is it didn't get a response from you so you're responsible for that lack of response. It's like being sick and staying home from work and being unable to call because your phone is broken... Your job doesn't know you're sick or that your phone is broken... It's unfair but you should expect that there's going to be some kind of penalty to deal with there.

If it was the servers, everyone would be having the same problems. If a server goes down, no one can access it.

yeah, everyone was, for like 5 hours, but SE blamed it on ISP even though everything else worked.
Not talking about now, but way back when they blamed it on people's ISP, the connection has not been exactly stable and I seen others having problems.

For a while there were ISP issues when a main transfer line used by Level3 (the main Internet backbone leading up to where the servers are in Canada) was accidentally severed by a construction company. Because of this you couldn't get to the game servers but you could get to everything else. Imagine it like someone had closed down the only road to get somewhere... Well, all the other roads are still open, so you can get to other places, you just can't get to that one place you really want to go.

They aren't but most East Coast ISP's route traffic through Level3's network to that location, and don't have a backup set for whatever reason. That's why only some ISP's have issues.

I had no issues back then. Your "internet" works fine because when you go to a webpage, you aren't connecting to the game servers. It also doesn't require the same checks to verify client connectivity, you just load the web page slower. If you tried to play another game hosted in the same datacenter as the NA servers when these issues were going on, you'd have the same problems.

Me and my friends (I'm from Brazil and the majority of my FC is from around the US) have had problems a few months ago, but everything seems better now. I did disconnect once or twice throughout the past two weeks, but that's far better than several times every day, sometimes within 5min of each failure. Two or three of my FC mates have been having constant connection issues, however, but they usually blame it on their ISPs. I'm not sure where exactly in the US they live and if their problems could be caused by having the same ISP, though.

But in all honesty, Square Enix isn't wrong in blaming ISPs. I'm no IT expert, but I know managing this kind of thing is definitely not black and white. I'm sure that if the source of the problem was within SE, they would come forward with it as they have so many times before. I have no problems in blaming my ISP bc I know how shitty they can be. Had many problems with them before, as anyone has with theirs.
