New player - questions about endgame and other stuff :)

Hi, started the game a few weeks ago, still a bloody newbie. Looking forward to get into endgame raiding sometime in the future though!

    - I know of the dps/heal meta in this game and I dont mind it but between WHM and SCH, I assume WHM usually gets to "main" heal? Do you spend 90% of the time dpsing on the second healer? 50%? Do both healers spend an equal amount of time healing and dpsing? I know different groups may do things differently but what's the usual way people prefer doing this?

    - What consumables are you expected to bring to raids/parties? I've seen food and stat pots so far, is there more? Are you expected to bring the "best" consumables or are people usually fine with weaker versions?

    - I heard/read you dont really need to push your dps to the extreme to clear content. Does that mean you dont usually wipe to enrage/too low dps? Are mechanics usually the main problem?

    - Is there a list of popular/recommended linkshells somewhere?

    Thanks!

Currently the optimal way to do this is having both healers DPS during appropriate windows. It depends a lot on the fight and the healers. For example, in our group with an AST and SCH (me), for the first A9S miniboss the AST solo heals while I never leave Cleric Stance, but on our first A11S win the AST actually had a bit higher DPS than me because I spent so much time (over)shielding people in the fight. The current optimal setup for raids is AST+SCH, WHM isn't as sought after.

For static groups, people are generally expected to bring food an potions. Both should be HQ, but they don't have to be the absolutely best available. Our group uses Draconian pots and Priestly Omelettes because they're cheap and enough for us at this point. As a healer, you may want to use MP pots for progression (for emergency situations) and then MND pots for clears and farms (for DPS push phases).

In current raid tier, there are two easier raids (A9S and A10S) before you'll encounter one where it's even possible to see an enrage with a relatively good group (A11S). The issue with that one is keeping up good DPS while doing mechanics (and of course staying alive).

Is there a list of popular/recommended linkshells somewhere?
Don't know much about linkshells, sorry!

While there is some min/maxing that people like to do, none of it truly matters much or is required. It's just something to do after you've gotten completely comfortable with the raid and the job that you play. All that's truly required for Savage raiding is that everyone really learns and really tries. That sounds simple, but you'd be surprised at how many just plain don't or can't.

And yes, WHM would be healing much more because the Scholar's fairy's healing is unaffected by Cleric Stance, and its healing is much stronger than the WHM's regen effects, albeit only one person at a time. Additionally, much of SCH's DPS is periodic, so they can do damage while healing when needed. Finally, Scholar is decently more MP efficient than WHM, so it can afford to spend a lot more MP on DPS.

The 1000 character limit for forum posts is only on actually posting. It's unlimited upon editing.

Thanks a lot you two! Exactly what I've been looking for. (and yessss, workaround for the character limit for posts!)

Guess I'll stick to SCH for now then and check out AST once I've unlocked it.
