The main thing is that the Japanese language doesn't really use pronouns (they had to invent words for him/her when they started localizing English novels) and Nael used a neutral way to refer to herself. The English language has gender neutral terms (they, them, their's) it's not like German which has feminine and masculine ways of say "the". We just default to viewing people and characters without stated genders as being male. It happens a lot with animals and bugs and stuff too. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

To the localization team's credit I would've also assumed Nael was male though mainly because most of the Garleans we encounter are dudes. They pulled a Samus Aran with her.

You are incorrect. Nael was introduced as a male in 1.0, and his masculine pronouns were not an exclusive product/error of the English translation team. The Japanese dialogue was merely mostly vague as to a mention of gender (but there was still some).

Story-wise, Nael was introduced (all the way back in 1.x) as a male character. This was not something specific to the localized versions.

As the Japanese language is not as tightly bound to gender pronouns as are EN, FR, and DE, there are far fewer instances of Nael being referred to as a male in the JP version. This does NOT mean, however, that such instances are non-existent. For example, on Nael van Darnus’s introductory page on the official FFXIV website, you can find the following:

    彼が推し進める「メテオ計劃」なる作戦は、やがてエオルゼアに「第七霊災」を招くことに……

That first kanji character ”彼“ is “kare,” or the gender pronoun “he.”

For all intents and purposes, Nael is, and always will be, a male character. He was born male and died male. But then entered Eula, who was not ready to let the world know the truth, and concocted a plan to fool the entire world (including the Garleans themselves).

I didn't know that the website said that. Gendered pronouns aren't really used in modern speech in Japanese outside of the way that a person says me/my. Some people use them, some don't, and they're vaguer than they would be in English. Kare and kano are third person/demonstrative pronouns and mainly used in literature or narration. So it makes sense that it would've shown up on the website but not the game itself.

But really, the whole handling of the plot-twist was a mess and the "I AM NO MAN!" thing has been played out for a while. The boss fight was cool at least

    Calcabrina is:

    1. A doll.
    2. Based off the FFIV boss
    3. A monsterous DOLL that has no need for clothes

and the only one that actually matters:

    4. Not male or female as Calca are male and Brina are female.

Why have their been alot of skimpy female bosses? Because all those bosses are based on things that existed in FF before. And no, they should not be changed to be less skimpy "because PC." There's plenty of attractive men, they are just attractive for reasons other than heir physical attributes. Just because you don't like how somethign is doesn't make it less true.

There are less attractive females in FF that could be bosses and we'll definitely get them in the future (Some we alredy have.)

But, honestly, none of that matter. Why? Because what's wrong with being sexy? I'm a woman and I like being sexy. I shouldn't have to cover up or be all modest becuse it might offend someone. Likewise, SE shouldn't have to hold back for the same reasons. Let them do their thing, they are doing great!

Actually... Yes there is. It has been established that individuals brought to life as Primals tend to have a radically different appearance than their original did. One great example of this is the Primal Bahamut. A while ago, SE released a promotional image featuring Midgardsormr and all seven of his children. The folks in the Lore forum were in knots trying to figure out which of the children was Bahamut. Eventually it was narrowed down, but the confusion was justified in that aside from similarities in the shape of the head, Bahamut looked NOTHING like Primal Bahamut. Unlike many other Primals, Bahamut does not have the justification that his appearance may be shrouded in myth and legend, because virtually all of the dragons who contributed to Bahamut's summoning had seen the guy with their own eyes while he was still alive.

Something about the Primal summoning process brings the Primal forth in a form that does not resemble the original, or even resemble the summoners' own expectations of how the original looked. This may well be another sign of how the Ascian's summoning process is twisted and evil.

But it's been stated several times before (in the case you havn't read the thread) that's not the point. The point is where the hell are the xexy male gods? People post Titan and other scantly clad things that have been categorized as male. But those aren't the European models people are looking for.

An interesting bit of info, which of course requires going to the website, rather than the game, which in itself may explain this detail.
The model does use a male body shape, which is why they went with a roegadyn like body for her reveal in ARR.

Though its still possible those in charge of the website could have errored.
Either way this shows a miss handling of it at least in japan as well.

Literally the thread is the opposite of your outrage. No one wants LESS sexy women. We just want MORE sexy men.
