Wanna stop people from wanting to rush to max level ASAP?
Tone down the retarded effect of level difference on battle calculations.
Level up means more HP and MP, higher base attributes (STR, DEX, etc), more powerful and varied abilities and traits, better gear, etc.
Why exaggerate the effect of level to the point where it is the most important stat in the game?
If you think it's good for lolimmersion and/or for the feeling of actually becoming stronger then you can't blame people for actually wanting to hit max level ASAP.
But if they actually relied on hp, mp, stats, abilities for a more linear balancing, you as a level 40 could grind with your level 50 friend without it really being powerleveling, since you wouldn't get 2-shot or do crap damage to level 45 monsters and he wouldn't destroy them like fodder.
Same goes for abilities like sentinel, having abilities that are perceived as required or as big boosts to progression will always result in a mad rush to obtain them.
In this game level is an artificial and inflated way of growth, it's the most important stat in the game and if they deny it to the players with ridiculously high exp requirements like the OP suggests people will simply leave.
People like the OP keep whining it's not supposed to be a race to 50 but the way I see it, one more level is the biggest prize you can ever get in this game.

hmm...im not PLer.. but i don't care if anyone PLing so easy..
i don't PL because i don't need to PL..
i don't know why PL should be nerfed , but..
come on.. if someone wants leveling fast there should be a choice
yes please get rid of this pl'ing stuff, you might as well have no leveling at all then. and then you might as well stop charging monthly for a nonmmorpg. if this not fixed there will be plently of mmo's to go to instead. and we can all leave this game to people who think they are gaming. personally i think they will fix it so live it up for now and enjoy but sooner or later the pl'ing will be stoped. or like i said the game will fall to the waistline. more so then it already is, a permanent one where everyone comes back for a 2.0 and leaves a month later.
it *seems* that people are generalizing xp gain based on battle classes. yes, if you can find a good party the instant you log on without waiting for people to join, do it for 4-5 hours everyday, then maybe you can rank up very fast. however, most of the time, i'm waiting for an hour for people to join a party, then grind for an hour before people start getting bored or hungry or sleepy. i also supplement my grind parties with several leves that net me less than half an hour of xp parties. in that instance, you don't level up very fast. i would imagine that i am not in the minority with my style of xping.
aside from battle class, you have to take into account the xp for DoH and DoL classes. they don't get xp chains or pl's. how is increasing the xp curve good for crafters/gatherers? focusing on one narrow scope of battle class xp is not a terribly comprehensive way to suggest a balanced xp system for the entire game.
Bring on Level Downs and Exp Loss.
ooooh i like questionnaires~
I dont like where my post is heading, so I ll say this straight out:
This is not about casual vs hardcore or grind fest, I am speak my opinion (my own not this community) that the exp rate atm is to high which leading to a game w/o journey or any taste
And for ppl who say the exp curve is fine atm, I have questions to you:
1. Do you play the game at all ?
uh...yes. i play almost every weekday after work and the entire weekend if i don't have prior engagements. do you see me with all classes at 50? nope!
2. Do you realize the game you're playing is lacking of journey, fun while process or for you party & grind is fun ?
to me, the journey is gaining lodestone achievements and hanging out with my ls buddies. i don't prescribe to your idea of fun. to reference gath, my fun is worth more than your fun.
3. Do you prefer to pay ticket to a theme park where you have to wait 2-3 days to a week before you can enjoy it or you prefer to pay ticket to a theme park where you can enjoy from the very start ?
hmmm. i think that's called planning? idk. if i plan for a trip to a theme park and buy the ticket in advance because of some groupon deal, i don't mind waiting around to enjoy it.
btw i have no idea what you mean by this question. so i'm answering nonsense with a little sense.
note: the reason I write this idea now is because even if I write it at the first post, no one will bother to read it because it ll become wall of text.
But do you really need to leave just because others have different goals and play style from you?yes please get rid of this pl'ing stuff, you might as well have no leveling at all then. and then you might as well stop charging monthly for a nonmmorpg. if this not fixed there will be plently of mmo's to go to instead. and we can all leave this game to people who think they are gaming. personally i think they will fix it so live it up for now and enjoy but sooner or later the pl'ing will be stoped. or like i said the game will fall to the waistline. more so then it already is, a permanent one where everyone comes back for a 2.0 and leaves a month later.
Waaaa 1: PL ruins my experience, I can't get a party that doesn't PL!
Truth: Seems you actually are the minority, and you are actually complaining that others won't play the way you want.
Waaaa 2: PL causes people to be bad at their job by the time they do endgame.
Truth: Good players don't need to kill a thousand raptors to learn how to play, 10 second fights can't prepare you for endgame bosses, a bad player usually stays bad even if you spoon feed him boss tactics and instructions, when a good player isn't performing that great it's usually because he is missing a small piece of key information and will pickup his game as soon as someone provides it.
Waaaa 3: PLed guys are gimp.
Truth: While people being PLed won't bother to get proper level gear for PL grinds there were gimp people before PL was introduced, people usually PL so they can experience endgame content sooner and someone who wants to do endgame will keep his gear updated most of the time.
Waaa 4: PL helps RMT.
Truth: RMT are a plague in games where you can't PL too. If PL makes RMT level faster, it does the same for legit players that compete for resources against them.
Waaa 5: PLed people will end up leaving the game in 3 months.
Truth: Most people don't play this game to kill time, but to have fun. These people are more likely to logout and play some other game if there are no LS events instead of doing boring repetitive grinds. These same people will be back next day to check if LS is running a raid, etc.. If SE wants to keep these people they actually need to provide endgame content because they will only grind when they really feel like trying out a new job.

Need the I don't like button x.x'
Gem in the rough.I agree with this in principle, but it ignores some basic human nature. One doesn't have to agree with people who find grinding for cap a sign of accomplishment, maybe because it doesn't seem like it is an accomplishment rather than a brainless chore. I happen to find grinding a chore, but I understand the people who feel it is currently an empty feeling to reach cap with so little effort. I wouldn't feel the need to call them names or wish their deaths because they think differently than me.
If I want to play a qualifying round of a sport and my competition doesn't push me my victory seems empty. You can tell me I could just choose to score less goals, or run slower and get a finishing time that's closer to everyone else, but it doesn't change that I know it wasn't a challenge, so I don't feel I won as much as if I was truly pushed to win the competition. Wishing for a greater challenge isn't stupid. The problem here is that some people wish for more challenge and see reaching 50 as one such challenge, while others feel that reaching 50 is not the challenge they play the game for, but instead it unlocks the challenges.
My recommendation? Two paths. One is the existing one where people can grind away in less than one week per class. The other should be something that takes longer due to higher risk, but offering incentive through useful rewards. Level-reactive instances, for example. Behests already adjust the level of the mobs based on a combination of the camp and the members participating, so the means already exist in-game. An instanced XP dungeon could do the same. Get your party together, whatever your level, and head in. Once you enter, the mobs spawn at a challenge relative to your level. Maybe you can even set a star-rating. But also give the player a star rating. I'm talking about a permanent 'badge-of-honour', so to speak. Not an item, but a rating that people can see when they check the player. The more challenges you do, the higher your rating. So when you check two level 50 Lancers and one has a 5-star rating and the other has zero, you have some feeling about how they got there. It doesn't give them better gear. It doesn't mean they're a better player, it's just something that those individuals can be proud of.
Or if ratings aren't preferred, just raise the risk-to-reward ratio in such areas, making them a good place to farm and XP at the same time. Players who opt for the greater challenge come away with more marketable goods, and can better equip themselves and show off that way (though this wouldn't work under the existing market conditions).
In any case, it's important to specifically avoid having unique items in these areas that you can't get anywhere else, because those who do not want the challenge will feel it is unfair that they can't get the items. Unfortunately, when people buy a video game they don't want to be told they can't have something in the game because it's for other people who work harder. Some game designs ignore these people, others (and FFXIV is among them) do not.
To elaborate, that is the first compromise out of all of these threads that has made any damn sense. This, please. Make a new thread, keep it bumped on the front page, whatever you have to do to make sure this idea gets to a rep.
