Speak for yourself there, I gain no sense of achievement from hitting the limit on a number.
I gain achievement for large battles with bosses, or completing difficult missions / events.
When I hit cap I instantly think "THANK FUCK its over, now I can enjoy the game."
Essentially.
You're wrong, it's human nature to feel a greater sense of achievement for something that takes longer to achieve. You can't deny it. It's not like if you spend longer leveling up that you forsake the other aspects of the game, derp.
Soooooo...what is that, if not a sense of achievement?
Honest question. Not an attempt at sarcasm.
That's funny because that's normally when I start losing interest in a mmo. For me the game is the grinding and lower level content (which I agree the game falls completely flat on) which isn't based around getting gear the best gear in the game. I was hoping for a game with a CoP setup for the entire game but I don't think they make them anymore.
leveling isn't supposed to be hard. content is supposed to be hard.
taking one year to reach cap on something does not instill achievement. It's more like, why the hell did it take this long to level? I finally got weaver to 50 a few weeks ago after leveling it since november. I was more annoyed with how long it took. It also doesn't help that it was incredibly boring. Also by reducing the amount of exp you get from everything, it will take a casual player even longer to reach cap. so what may take them 3 months could turn into 6 months. SE is trying to get players not drive them away. No one is into the "hardcore" grind anymore. This isn't 2000 anymore.
That's the problem Rath - the journey right now is not fun and has not been since day one. Perhaps that is why the experience gain and the power leveling tools are so powerful because SE realizes this issue.
Make this suggestion again when the journey from 1-50 is phenomenal. Do not make it beforehand - it doesn't make any sense to do so.
This is done on purpose people, so the devs can just churn out level 50 content to tide us over until 2.0. It's the plan to get everyone to 50 asap. It ain't changing until 2.0.
I did. You said it took you a year to hit cap then you played for an addition five years. Did you mean you took five additional jobs to cap? Or did you spend those five years enjoying content that has nothing to do with how long it took you to level?Did you read what I said or just hit the quote button?
It wasn't a literal statement, it has nothing to do with how many jobs I leveled or exactly how many years I played. I feel sorry for any teachers who had to mark your work at school (assuming you've been).
I didn't mean that leveling is hard, it's not, no matter how long it takes you. It should just take longer. Of course a year is an extreme case, because it was my first (others after that were faster) and because I was new to the game. I believe for FFXIV if you play casually (~3 hours / day) it should take you 3-4 months to hit cap on a class. Less if you do the math on however many more hours than that. Leveling isn't something that should happen over a couple days.
It's not a hardcore grind either, SE had it right when they put leves in the game, to mix it up and keep you interested, it worked for me. I'm not talking about DoH classes either, so don't use those as examples.
