Running multiple GPUs

I am trying to run 3 22' acer monitors together. Currently I am running duel monitors using a XFX 2gb HD6950 which cost me $300. I rly dont wanna pay that much again to run a 3rd smoothly. I have found a XFX 1gb hd 6770. My question is, Can I run the 6770 with my 6950 together to support 3 monitors? Or do they have to be the same GPU??

I assume you are asking if you can use the cards in CrossfireX?
If so, then no, you can not



However, your card should already be able to drive the three monitors, though you might need to get an active displayport adapter.

I am told by ppl in game that the performance drop I would get If I were to add a 3rd monitor alone to this GPU would be "horrible". IDK if this is true or not?

Right, you would have to scale down settings compared to what you are running now if you stay with the single card.

I have only run FFXIV with SLI and not CrossfireX, so I do not know how well the drivers/game handle multiple AMD cards.

Question do you have AO/DOF on if you do then try turning it off and see if you can run the 3rd better.

I can tell you from first hand experience that you will have to scale down your settings to almost the bottom with that card. I was running a 6870 on 1920x1200, and only could set to medium settings. If you expand to 3 monitors, you're going to be running 5760x1200 resolution, and if you're running 3d that cuts framerate in half, so you need 60fps non-3d to run at 30fps in 3d. I would highly recommend a second card at minimum, if not going to a gtx 480 or 580.
