Server design has nothing to do with the PS3, PS3's network capability is the same as of a netbook or a high-end gaming rig. Don't confuse it with the graphics engine, which shouldn't be a problem either if they do it right this time.

Don't know what you're bitching about. There's really no loss from the PC version thanks to the PS3 release. We're getting mod support, which the PS3 doesn't get. Better draw distances, which the PS3 won't get, and just more stuff on the screen all around, which the PS3 doesn't get.

Sounds to me that the PS3 players are being screwed over due because of the PS3 not being anywhere near as flexible as a PC, but okay.

Actually, it's because of the serverside interface is why XIV is a laggy mess. If the interface itself was clientside it wouldn't be as bad as it is, because that would mean even XIII/XIII-2's and Versus XIII's interface would lag to high heaven, since pulling resources from a server is no different from pulling resources off the disk, both are essentially the same process.

Serious question: Do you even know the specs of the PS2? That it was released in 2000 and 2001? Do you know that an MMO requires quite a bit more than an offline title? Only people who can't see it from both perspectives will find anything an excuse.

Except that your disk doesn't sit half a planet away, separated by shitty servers.

Heh, this again? It's been proven with FFXI that distance doesn't matter. I was even able to play Rift from outside of the US just fine.

What matters is if your game and servers are optimized, XIV, which SE THEMSELVES admitted, is not.

even with a latency of over 800ms? I once played a game which had 1400ms latency and it was a lot worse than FFXIV, with client side UI. Distance may not matter, latency does.

And a latency of some ns (SSD) or ms (HDD) is still a lot less than the 400ms i have now.

If PS3/PC players aren't separated, you can be almost certain that the overall gameplay will suffer because of PS3 players. Especially if PvP becomes important (i.e. not as useless as in XI) on XIV. To make things fair between PC and PS3 players, expect some gameplay tweaks to be made.
