    About server design

I was wondering since we are getting more and more of "this can't be implemented because of server design, you'll get it in 2.0"... Did the old team really make a game and servers where they couldn't implement basic stuff like a proper AH/market system, a delivery system (the list goes on), even a year after launch ?

Or is it simply too difficult and what we are expecting for the year to come is a Primal battle, some Seventh Era content (usual Imperial assault on X camp ?), some crafting/spiritbonding/materialising/melding/breaking gear just to be able to do the same thing when better gear comes with the next patch, and instanced raids/strongholds where the gear are (or will be) less interesting than their crafted counterparts... This every two or three months ?

I am truly willing to pay for this game when it comes to P2P but I would rather have them admit that we will eat artificial content for a year while funding a part of their game's dev than telling us they're doing everything possible to keep us entertained until 2.0. The game is still far from entertaining and I'm not saying that because we're working on timesinks to get gears that will become outdated after two months...

Heck I enjoyed more spamming Dynamis every three days for two years to get a stupid Duelist's Chapeau than doing Ifrit every 15min and dropping nothing out of 50~100 runs. I know they're changing the drop system but they could've simply changed it to what it is in instanced raids. I guess they would rather have us waste time on this, that is their mean of entertainment.

    Unfortunately, yes.

Nobody says they couldn't, now they simply don't have to since they are remaking the servers from scratch.

Basically they used an engine optimized for an offline game. It's why FFXIII was such a beautiful, fluid game but XIV is a laggy mess. Crystal Tools just wasn't made to be pulling resources off a sever.

I actually think its become their one stop excuse for everything, its more likely "we can't be bothered to spend all this time making X feature work when we only have to rip it out in 9-10 months time"

SE used the PS2 limitation a lot in FF11 and this server thing is basically the same IMO.

It's much more likely that the exsisting code is so bad that they are having a hard time changing things without it causing issues elsewhere.

Sounds plausible. Whatever the issue, I hope they resolve it faster.

Actually, it's because of the serverside interface is why XIV is a laggy mess. If the interface itself was clientside it wouldn't be as bad as it is, because that would mean even XIII/XIII-2's and Versus XIII's interface would lag to high heaven, since pulling resources from a server is no different from pulling resources off the disk, both are essentially the same process.

Serious question: Do you even know the specs of the PS2? That it was released in 2000 and 2001? Do you know that an MMO requires quite a bit more than an offline title? Only people who can't see it from both perspectives will find anything an excuse.

"Oh we can't do 16 bit graphics on the Famicom/NES and we're pretty limited in color palette..."

"NO THAT'S EXCUSE STOP MAKING EXCUSES!"

Except that your disk doesn't sit half a planet away, separated by shitty servers.

Heh, this again? It's been proven with FFXI that distance doesn't matter. I was even able to play Rift from outside of the US just fine.

What matters is if your game and servers are optimized, XIV, which SE THEMSELVES admitted, is not.
