the game would need to have so many music files to accommodate that request that it would be unworkable. there is a method (if you're on PC) to make changes but that's definitely something only advanced users can do. console players out of luck.

Wouldn't mind some classic FF songs being orchestration drops or if they let you customize the fan fare theme.

Honestly tired of this "argument." Anything could be considered a waste of dev resources depending on your desires for the game. If it pleases people and makes the game more enjoyable it's not a waste. It wouldn't be difficult to implement this. It's QOL. Maybe not high on the list of things to implement but there is no harm in adding this.

You can be tired of the argument all you want, it doesn't mean it isn't true. Soken and his group could be developing/composing newer tunes for new content or remaking older tracks instead of fitting old songs from older games into a new game. Save the dev team their $$$ and time and just go to Youtube, find a song, right click and loop it. It's not difficult, and it literally doesn't take any time or money.

Ehhhhhh......the older tracks would be making their way into the game either way in that scenario. Remixed is fine. I think what the OP is asking for is the exact OSTs from older games, completely untouched but while that may be unlikely it's still not a bad idea to give us the ability to change the music our client plays at will. Really it would be easier to just port over the old songs if you think about it. No extra work required to remix them or anything.

FFXIV already does their versions of some past FF themes. Good enough for me. If you want more than that, like others have mentioned it's probably best to run a media player in the background. Greater freedom anyway.
