Coglin...you cannot change your character color in Tactics, the game picked colors for the enemy units depended on what faction they belonged to, and your sprites were the classic/true appearance. Therefore, they were only recolored for the purpose of identifying them among a crowd of units.

Proof that game developers use color coordination to distinguish between unit ownership:
Starcraft
Tactics
Fire Emblem
Proof that this stuff exists and is recognized by other people besides myself

I can continue to list games at your leisure, but I believe that should do. Oh, FF:Tactics uses Type II (in the last link) in case you wanted to know. As far as other titles, I did admit to forgetting the teal Kain because it was oh so long ago, but recently S-E has been on a kick (recently as in a few years now) to unify the series in terms of creating iconic, repeating themes. If you don't believe me ask your defendee. If they did the digging and remember the old Kain maybe they remember some of the old names to spells from the NES/SNES days, and once remade were changed to fit the series to create...Iconic, repeating spells to unify the series.

And I bet you, if there was a DS/3DS remake of 5, those Dragoons would all be purple-black with different armor styles, but none the less purple-black. Just saying.

Edit: lol, I'm not angry at all, for whatever reason Coglin thought best to attack a post/poster rather than discuss like human beings, sadly this happens a lot on these forums...anonymity, what a gift, what a curse...
