It makes so much sense.
Because black mages always wore black clothes and still do? If I'm not mistaken, they always have worn blue clothes.

What gives off that a character is a certain job is the design of the item, not the color. Black Mages cast black magic with a straw pointy hat, white mages cast white magic with a robe with the hood up. The rest you can tell by the design of the armor. The one with the dark looking armor is obviously a dragoon. Oh the one with fur all over their outfit, obviously a warrior. Monk has that dangling thing hanging from their head. I mean I can go on, you get the point.

And to say that we need these COLORS to tell who is who, you won't need colors to decide that. You just need to know the persons name and what job they are. And especially in 2.0, we will have a symbol by our names that say what our job is in the party. I mean how much more do you need?
